EPILOGUE
Few weeks before
"Okay, this is going to sound insane. But from the very first moment our eyes met, I just knew he would mean a lot to me, but I never thought he would be this important to my life Mom," I whined to my Mother, and she just listened silently, standing behind me in the vanity and brushing my silver locks with scented oils.
"Then what is the problem here? Do you hate the fact that he means so much to you?" She asked, face furrowed in confusion. Of course she was confused, I could not tell her the whole story, just snippets of truths that didn't really make sense.
"No Mom, I'm just scared cause I don't know how to handle it," I groaned softly into my hands, and she tutted, muttering something about being young again.
"But if you don't want to date this boy, then don't. You don't have to do anything," My Mom said, and I immediately started choking at the idea of dating. Whatever was she thinking?
"Anyways, the school is really safe, and for the first time in my life, I met people I really like, people I can really connect with. And I feel like I am keeping this big secret from them, which i am," I said, grasping her stiff hands in mine.
'I am saying that I am not afraid anymore. Or at least I don't want to be. And you said it yourself, no one can get in or out," I tried to persuade her. Make her understand that for the first time in my life, I felt that absolute certainty that it was time. She sighed and resumed brushing my hair.
"It's not fair darling, I know. You should not have to hide who you are," She paused. "I grew up in a small community, and it was really close knit. When I got pregnant with you, about five young women like me were also pregnant. And we were all friends. It was strange, fun even, that is until we all put to bed. I was surrounded by doctors all week, but when I came home, the women were gone. They disappeared, vanished without a trace. The only explanation I got was that the women complained of strange sightings. And that the night before they disappeared, a loud piercing scream shook our town, and then it was silent," She ended, and my mouth was still open from shock.
"What the_ Mom! You never told me that part," I shouted, and she just gave me a small smile.
"I panicked and left. Since we all gave birth to girls I thought it must be connected. And the night before I left, a letter was slipped underneath my door telling me to run far away and put you in disguise, or we would be next. And after your scandal with the Mayor's son, I found that same letter with the same seal, inviting you to a prestigious school called Jupiter high, and it felt like fate. So I brought us here," She explained, and I shook my head, trying to get my thoughts in order. It was crazy just how much she kept from me.
"So what I am trying to say is that, if you feel that it's time to drop the disguise, then," She smiled. "There's something about that school of yours that I don't understand. But if you managed to form bonds with those people, then you will be safe, I know it," She ended, with conviction in her eyes.
