CHAPTER 19

I sat beside Kaz quietly, normally I would be trying to force some type of conversation thereby thoroughly annoying the guy in the process. But as I sat beside him quietly listening to the smooth purr of the engines, I could not bring myself to speak.

How could I? The voices haunting me recently finally made themselves known, and to my utmost shock, they were replicas of me. We were all girls with separate lives but the same fate, and then I met what they called a triquetrum, apparently I activated mine, and now a boy I could not stand few weeks ago became my fate. Could my life get any worse?

I silently got out of the car, but before I could turn the corner, a strong hand gripped mine.

"Be careful. And if you should hear or see anything suspicious, anything at all. Call for me," Kaz warned, firm hands gripping mine. I just blinked stupidly.

"What could possibly be suspicious? This is my home," I finally said with eyebrows raised.

He frowned, clearly not appreciating my flippant attitude, I frowned back, wondering why he was suddenly protective. I shrugged it off, and his hands too.

"I am alright, I swear. You could even leave right now and I will find my way back," I said with a bright smile. He simply frowned again.

"I am not letting you out of my sight," He said resolutely, and I sighed. "Oh well, a girl can't have everything," With one last wave, I dashed into the building, intent on finding my mother.

                           ~

"Mom! I am home!" I hollered, swiping the door open. I entered, looking around the chick apartment, it looked just the way I left it, with it's soft colors and warm lights. I moved towards the big window overlooking the city, and took a deep breath.
Suddenly realizing just how much of my time as been spent with vampires "that cannot be good for me."

"Oh dear!" My mom exclaimed, moving forward. Her wet hair wrapped in a towel. "I thought I heard something. When did you arrive?" She asked me while simultaneously enfolding me in her arms.

"I just did. How are you mom? I missed you," I said quietly, inhaling her refreshing Mom scent of apples,  jasmine and alcohol. Alcohol? I slowly moved back.

"Mom, have you been drinking?" I asked her narrowing my eyes and trying to pin her with my gaze. She cleared her throat and averted her eyes.

"Don't be so uptight dear. It was just a little al_alcohol," She burped. Looking at her angrily, I tried to swallow the lump in my throat.

"But still," I cried. "How could you drink? You know you have to keep your guard up, how could you let  this happen?" I shouted, but she just smiled softly and placed her hands on my head.

"It's alright. I am here aren't I? Now stop nagging and tell me all about your new school," She said with a kind smile. I was shocked at the rush of tears that filled my eyes.

"Oh Mom! I am so confused, and scared,"  I cried, flinging myself into her arms. "I am so confused Mom, and I really want to run away."

She hummed softly, and quietly led me to sit on a couch. "Shh its alright, its alright. Now, tell your Mom all about it."

I hummed to myself, skipping down the flight of stairs. My conversation with my Mom had been very enlightening, I mean the proof was right here, I smiled staring down at myself in feminine clothes. I stopped at a mirror in the lobby and admired myself once again.
