CHAPTER 26

Intruders? That could only mean one thing right? My life was probably in danger, again. I tried to keep my trembling to a minimum.

"Alright. Elijah says to bring a Maeve?" Luca asked with a clueless look on his face, while I fought the smile on mine.

"Who is Maeve Paris?" Dante who was apparently in no mood for jokes, asked urgently, and I rolled my eyes.

"It's me you idiots. I am Maeve," I muttered, and immediately scoffed at the weird expressions they were making. "What?" I asked grumpily. And they just chuckled.

"Oh. So, are we allowed to call you Maeve as well, or is that just a special something between you two?" Luca teased, and I fought the urge to rest my cool hands on my flaming cheeks.

"Why?" I pretended nonchalance. "Is that something he said? Did he say anything at all about having something special with me?" I asked, and judging by their expressions, I was not as casual as I would have liked.

"Seriously?" Dante deadpanned. And I straightened up immediately.

"Oh, Intruders. Right," I mumbled, fixing my coat. Luca ushered us out with a laugh.

Everyone in the library must have also gotten a whiff of the intruders because they had all cleared out as well. Once we reached outside, the relaxed atmosphere tensed. And I hurried along, stuck between Luca and Dante. They were more my guards now than anything else.

As we hurried into the main building housing the principal's office, I wondered who the intruders were, and why no one seemed to be doing anything about it. I was ushered up the spiraling stairs, leading to the office.

We stopped at the door undecided. And turned to each other, I gasped when they shoved me forward, and glared at them severely before knocking.

"Get in here," A strict voice ordered, and we scrambled to do just that.

The door swung open just as we made a move, and we all fell in. From my upside down vision, I watched shiny leather shoes approach with a cane on the side. Gulping, I allowed my eyes to travel upwards, and finally locked gazes with Principal Rhazia's unamused ones.

"Well well. Look who we have here," He mused slowly, and I offered him a timid grin, his eyes narrowed again. "Stand up!" I flinched at the word, and we all scrambled again to do just that.

Finally upright, I surveyed the room. It was just as I remembered, comforting in it's shades of brown and black. Dark velvet curtains danced from the huge medieval windows into the room, and sunlight bounced off the tight leather of the chairs, twinkled off hundreds of trophies arranged at the far corner of the room, and finally came to rest on the brown mahogany of the main table. Lending a soft ambience to the room. Sensing eyes on me, i turned and met Elijah's tired gaze, and frowned at that. The circles around his eyes were becoming concerning. He gifted me a strained smile, a smile I happily returned.

"Maeve, there's someone here that would like to see you," He announced, and I had to raise my brows at that, ignoring the way my heart fluttered at the sound of his raspy voice calling me Maeve.

"Wh_what do you mean? Who's here?" I asked skeptically. He simply curled his lips. I spurned impatiently, because it turned out I was not very fond of surprises. A door to the side slowly opened, a door I had not noticed, and Jaxon slowly stepped out. Long dirty blonde hair braided to the side, and face so tan he looked brown next to the vampires, he seemed taller than I remembered, all brawn, deep blue eyes, and an easy smile. My jaw dropped open.

"Jaxon!" I squealed, my feet moving forward before my brain could even formulate a more tactical approach to the situation. Jumping into his arms, I held on tight. Reluctant to let go.
