Chapter IX

Narrator's POV:

After Sanemi walked Giyuu to the Water Pillar's estate, and the two said goodbye, Giyuu wasn't...satisfied. He wished to spend more time with the Wind Pillar.
Around 12:00 A.M, Giyuu struggled to rest. The Water Hashira decided to take a short walk outside, which is what he usually does, ignoring the fact that demons go slaughtering humans in the middle of the night :)
Suddenly, raindrops hit Tomioka's face, the cold water waking the man up. Though, he was far away from his estate...however, Giyuu did know someone who lived nearby there.

On the other hand, Sanemi Shinazugawa couldn't sleep either. He predicted that it was starting to rain, and the demon slayer sat on his dark, wooden desk, sipping a mug of coffee. People would inform him not to drink the beverage in the middle of the night, but Sanemi ignored them in irritation.
His lavender eyes shifted towards the nearby window. Sanemi risen up, while holding the beverage, his pale and scarred hand gripping the curtain, sliding it to the right. The Hashira practically choked on his drink, witnessing the long haired figure.
With no sorts of hesitation, Shinazugawa opened his door, shouting,
"What the hell are you doing out there!?"
Giyuu spun to gaze at him, a tad startled with the sudden interruption.

Sanemi shut the front door, grabbing a towel for the Water Pillar after Giyuu had entered the estate. The Wind Pillar ran his hands through his messy and white hair, questioning on why the other decided to walk in the middle of the night.
"I couldn't sleep. By the way, it's what I do when I struggle to." Tomioka answered, drying himself with the towel, "Thank you for letting me in, Sanemi."
For Shinazugawa, hearing the other man speaking more than one sentence so comfortably was odd. Hearing Giyuu addressing him by his first name made his heart thump quicker. Back then, he would've never expected Giyuu Tomioka in his own estate, and it was even more shocking that he was safe keeping a diamond ring for the Water Pillar.

Giyuu assumed he would head out soon, but it started to rain harder than ever. Giyuu headed towards the door, saying,
"I appreciate the towels and everything Sanemi, but it's for the best I leave—
Sanemi slipped his hand in his,
"Don't. By the time you step outside, you'll be drenched."
"..Okay."
Sanemi reluctantly let go of Giyuu's hand, disbelieving on what had came out of his mouth.
"You can use my shower, and I have clothes that I don't wear anymore."
The Wind Pillar avoided eye contact with Giyuu, he couldn't believe this wasn't a dream.

After Tomioka showered and changed, he sat on Sanemi's bed with the Wind Hashira sitting right next to him.
"I can sleep—
"It's fine, I'm...comfortable sleeping here. But, if you aren't, that's okay." Giyuu said, "I'm simply thankful for you letting me spend the night here.."
"It's not a big deal, Tomioka."
"Giyuu. I just...could you call me Giyuu from now on?"
Sanemi blushed, his eyes looking down on the floor.
"Fine."

Shinazugawa shut off the light, lying down. He and Giyuu didn't touch each other, yet during nighttime, when both were asleep, Giyuu gently grasped Sanemi's hand. Sanemi, who wasn't a deep sleeper, woke up, exhausted. He wasn't all that shocked from Giyuu holding his hand, but Giyuu had let go, and in replace, pulled in closer. Sanemi felt Tomioka breathing, the Water Pillar's head resting on him. The Wind Pillar didn't push Giyuu away, instead, he just laid there, softly pushing Giyuu's hair out of his face. Sooner or later, he fell asleep.
