Late

It's late at night, like all times I truly flourish
The dark makes it easier to think
The quietness filled by music,
And my voice, softly mumbling along
My pencil flicks over a page
The elf in the suit stares back at me
White eyes and a masked face
I blink away the slight heavy feeling that has begun to overtake my eyes
I shake the soft fuzz away from my brain
The one encouraging me to rest my mind
The clock makes a soft chime, signaling the beginning of a new hour
The new hour being 04:00 am
My pencil finally finishes shaping the new creature
I yawn, clicking off my light and contemplate rest
I decide against it, instead choosing rock music and bird drawings
I'm still mumbling words, lyrics to my music
Sometimes turning into mini conversations
Held between Me, Myself, I, and Flowers
Flowers is rather disappointed I'm staying up late into the night again
But she understands why I must
Time seems to speed up with every flick of my pencil over this dotted paper
In my leather book, and my bag of pencils
Until I hear the morning calls of the real birds
The tweets and chirps break me from my trance
I check the time
07:00 AM
It is time for breakfast
I walk downstairs, hugging my mother, who has work, goodbye
She questions why I'm up so early
I answer the birds awoke me, and walk to the pantry
I grab a bar, eating it quickly, drinking half a glass of water with it
I wander back upstairs
Thin lines of golden sunlight begin to pierce my blinds
I snap my book shut firmly, the light meaning that art time was over
I change clothes with a quickness, tossing on the summer shoes
I brew myself tea, putting it into a travel cup
I walk outside, enjoying the slight glare from the freshly risen sun
I seal my tea and shove it into a pocket, along with my phone
I grab the branch to a tree, clambering into it carefully
I make sure my tea doesn't spill over, the steam rising softly into the cool air
I'm still tired, having stayed up late again
I sip the tea, then take a deeper drink
I hope the caffeine to take effect sooner
I know exactly how this day will go
I will finish my tea
I will leave the sanctity of my tree to rinse my cup
I will watch a movie
I will take another walk, around the block a few times
I will greet Nem, because he's fun to bother
I will greet the few people I truly care about
I will go inside, eat another bar, most likely the last on this particular day
I will await dinner, maybe watch a show or throw my cane
I will assist in making dinner, eating as little as I can
I will wait until nightfall
Tonight is night 3 of staying up
Which means it is a rest night
I begin art time, only reaching the hollow shells of would-be creatures before the alarm goes off
01:22, it is time to rest
I take the meds that induce sleep
As I can rarely do it on my own
I then fall into a light and unwilling sleep
Only for the cycle of staying up late to endlessly continue
Because late is the best time to be awake.
