CHAPTER 14: I'M THE FREAK

POV Eva:

Sitting in the cell room, not cold like you'd imagine. The room's bed wasn't hard and the lights weren't too bright or too dim. I didn't feel at home but I didn't feel like I was going to die here. I wonder how long I have to stay in here. I wonder how long it's going to take to get rid of this thing inside of me.

A knock on the gate interrupts my thoughts. A person started talking "Alright little bird. I'm afraid you can't stay here anymore." I look up to see who it was but I got hit in the head. I passed out to only see the shape of the person. My eyes closed and all I heard was random mumbling.

POV Nicolas:

I've decided that I'm going look for Jake and Leo. They should be at their home. I sprint in my beast form and arrive at the building. I transform back and knock on the door. As the door opened, Jake looked at me and dropped his mug. "Hey. Can I ask you guys a favor?"

Jake reacted "Iris texted me saying you were okay. Don't startle us like that! By the way, the new look is amazing." I reply "Yeah, I shouldn't have run like that but I panicked." Leo walks by to check who's at the door and jumps to hug me, shouting with excitement "Nicky! We've been so worried." I felt him squeezing me. "Alright, you're going to squeeze me to death." Leo lets go and I catch my breath.

"So, what's the favor?" asked Jake. I replied "Well, before I say what the favor is, I need to ask something important." Jake and Leo give me a face, telling me to continue. "Have you guys gained any weird powers randomly?" Jake and Leo look at each other then look at me. There was a short silence.

Leo then answered "Please come inside." I walk inside and they close the door. Jake starts talking "Yes, we have. Every time I eat, I toast something else. I think I might be an electricity provider." I reply "I already knew you had electricity powers. I'm the only one that remembers what actually happened 5 years ago." Leo responds "So, I'm guessing you already know my ability." I reply "Yes, and the favor is, may you please join me on helping to control each other's powers?"

Jake speaks again "Wait-wait-wait-wait-wait. You knew this? How?" I slap my hand on my face. I explain to them what happened 5 years ago. Jake spoke "I see. That was a lot of explaining." I check the time on my phone. "Shit, it's 10:30 already. I have to get some rest. I have a lot on my plate tomorrow." I said and we say goodbye, later arriving at my dorm room.

I wake up the next morning to a protesting on TV. Iris was watching the news and I was shocked to see what it was about. They weren't accepting that a freak like me didn't kill anyone. They thought I killed the people they loved. They know who I am...

Iris was a bit concerned. I saw on her face what she was thinking. "These people don't even know you, and they're already blaming all of their traumas on you. Do they even realize that you're trying to help them?" I replied "No, because the only thing that they know is that anything that looks scary is a killing machine." Iris looked at me and said "I know what you're thinking. It won't change the fact that they will still find you." I reply "You're right. Running away won't solve anything. But if I stay here, then the whole building will be a target because of me."

Iris looks disappointed. She speaks "I hate to see you leave. You're an amazing roommate." I look up at her. "Is there something that you're not telling me?" Iris gave up immediately and spoke "Yes, there was something I wanted you to know before Tom and I met. I thought you were the coolest gal I knew. I thought I had feelings for you. When I met Tom, he had the same feelings for you as I did. We bonded and got to know each other more. You were the reason why Tom and I are happy together." I was stunned when I heard this. I hugged her and said "I'm sure you can live without me. And you two are the best couple I've ever seen."

Iris smiled "Thank you." I smile back and start packing my things. Iris helps me and we decide on what to keep and what to throw away. I leave the building with my hoodie on, making sure my face isn't seen. No one seems to notice me. I walk to where I last saw Eva to check if she's okay but as I was walking, a stone was thrown at me.

"What do you think you're doing freak! You think we can't see you?! You don't deserve to exist you monster!" said one of the men of the small group. "So, what? I've done nothing wrong but you still think I'm a freak because I'm different. Because I have abilities you don't have." Another man throws a can at me and shouts "My whole family is murdered! People have died ever since you showed up! What, you're gonna say you've been framed?!" I stay silent. They continue "That's what I thought." One of them threw a rolled-up paper at me and walked away.

I just stood there while everyone watched. The other people started throwing stuff at me thinking that I was a monster. "This is what I get when I'm different." It started raining and the crowd left me alone. I started tearing up and sat down under shelter.
