CHAPTER 9: ARRESTED

"Surrender now." the policeman said. I shout "What did I do!?" The policeman answered "You're under arrest. You are seen as a threat to the public." I reply "How can I prove that I'm not!?" The police answered "By surrendering. Now hands behind your head." I put my hands behind my head and look at them.

"Knees on the ground." I did what they said and they walked closer, still aiming guns at me. I let them handcuff me and went in one of the cars. Eva tried talking to one of the policemen while the others told everyone to go home. I looked at the blue sky then thought of what they were planning to do to keep me locked up. We then drove to the police station.

When we got there, I was then put into a room and sat down by the table. A man came in and another man was following him. The man with the stereotypical mustache started asking me questions after the other man touched my arm. "What are you?" I answered "I'm a human being just like everyone else." The other man nodded. The first man asked "We saw a video on the news of you turning into a creature. How are you human?"

I sighed and said "It's a really long story. You might want to record it if you want evidence." The man pointed at the camera and waited for me to talk. I told every part from arriving at SA labs to no one remembering anything after saving the world. The man touching my arm nodded again. "Is that so? Makes a lot more sense why so many people died and no one knows why." the man said. That made me think.

"How do you know I've been telling the truth the whole time?" The second man that was touching my arm said "I can tell if someone lies just by touching them. You've told the truth but you did leave parts out. I'm sure you only want us to know the main parts." I reply "I could tell you in great detail about the rest, but it's not related and it's about my personal life. I have a question too." The first man said "What is it?" I spoke "How many people have these powers? I know one. Well, two now. Excluding myself."

The first man said "Are you responsible for all the murders around the city?" I replied "What!? Of course not! I'm not willing to kill anything." The second man nodded and the first man replied "I was willing to know what kind of beast killed them, but it's not you." The second man responded "Who else has these special abilities?" I answered "Iris, my roommate." The two men look at each other and then let me go.

I was surprised and spoke "Wait, you're letting me go? I thought you wanted to ask more questions?" The first man said "We'll call you back when we do need to ask more questions." He removed his hat then I saw he had two small horns. "We also have to look out for each other, since we're the same." I smile and see him put his hat back on.

I follow them out the door and spot Eva and Iris waiting for me in the distance. Eva was yelling and Iris was trying to stop Eva from causing trouble. "Guys, I'm alright!" Eva looks at me then runs to me. "I'm so glad you're okay." she said as she hugged me. Iris jumped in the conversation "You see Evelyn, she's not going to get hurt."

Later in the evening, Eva and I walk around in the park. We were both silent. I didn't know what to say to start a conversation. "So, uh, interesting day, wasn't it?" I spoke. Eva replied "Y-yeah. It was." We were quiet for a moment then she spoke again.

"Things might be a bit awkward between us, but I need to tell you-" A hooting noise from a car was getting louder. We both looked at what the car was hooting at then saw someone that was in the way. I went to run after but Eva pushed me and ran to push the person out of the way. I turned into the creature and quickly grabbed her away and I got hit and transformed back as I hit the ground. I felt pain everywhere as I tried to get up.

"Luckily that guy stopped in time or else that would have been a lot of damage." I said to myself as I got up. Eva took her coat and handed it over to me. I put it on as the person ran over to us, asking if I was okay. I nodded then asked "What about you and the other person?" The driver nodded and went back in the car, driving off. I look at Eva, noticing that she wanted to say something to me.

"Eva? Are you alright?" I asked. She looked at me then said "I pushed you away so I could get in the way instead of you. You can heal faster that I can. I wanted to be in the way. I wanted to die." I was shocked at this and asked "Why do you want to die!?" She looked away and then back at me. "Because I don't want to kill anyone else. I've killed so many people. I can't control it. Except when I'm with you." Eva said in a low voice. My eyes widened.
