"No, i haven't had any yet." Willow said as she held the phone to her face. A soft voice spoke as her mom stood in the kitchen with her dad cooking.
"Is it chilli pepper or something else.." her mother said softly trying to remember. Chang's eyes went wide and he practically threw himself to his wife to stop her.
"No pepper! Not yet!" he yelled out in a loud voice.
Willow tried to shush him, but the elderly woman on the phone heard him already. "Uh- Yeah that was dad.. Speaker?" she asked looking to the man.
His head hung low and motioned for the girl to do what the woman said. "Chang? Chang are you there?" she asked.
"Hi, mama!" he said holding back his frustration.
"Oh, my baby- Why haven't you visited? I want to see my granddaughter and daughter-in-law!" the woman yelled. "I've only seen them twice!"
"Yeah- Ma, we're just trying to get a good time to come soon." he said taking the phone. The woman continued to yell as he walked into his bedroom. "Mama- Please stop yelling."
Victor, who sat by Willow, gave her one look before the two went outside to sit on the porch.
The moon was shining through the big tree in their yard making the sky look bright. Victor watched as cars went by and listened to the faint sound of music being played not too far away.
"I heard about Penn State." he said, breaking the silence. Willow only sniffed in response. "When were you gonna break the news?"
"When it mattered.." she said sulking into her chair. "Besides, we have bigger issues to worry about."
"Like what?"
"My birthday!" she beamed. "I know i haven't liked my birthday these past few years, but i think i'm ready to celebrate this one. It's my 17th!" she smiled.
Her cousin laughed as she went on about how big she wanted it to be. Her mother was in the kitchen and could hear the laughter.
She peaked out the windows and saw the two on the other end under the lamp giggling and smiling. A small smile crept to her face seeing her daughter's big smile.
"Well who's going to pay for all this?" Victor said as his laughs softened.
"Dude," she groaned. "Why'd you suck the fun out of it?" she joked. "Come on. The foods getting cold now."
...
Willow took her seat between Blaine and Santana at the coffee shop they went to. She handed Santana her drink before taking a sip from hers.
"Okay, favorite Michael Jackson memory. Go." Blaine said to the group.
"When i was one," Artie started off. "My mom showed me the VHS tape of his Motown special. And when he did the moonwalk across the stage for the first time in history, i uttered my first words- 'Hot damn'."
"I owe the King of Pop a deep debt of gratitude." Kurt went on. "He's the first one to pull off the sequined military jacket, long before one Kurt Hummel made it iconic."
"Yeah, well i have to thank my grandfather for being obsessed with him." Willow said. "Since i was like 6 i've learned every instrument i could just to play MJs songs. It's how i knew my favorite instrument was the piano and my favorite song was 'Girlfriend'."
"I have to be honest. I never really got him." Rachel said.
"I've always hated you.." Willow said loud enough for the girl to hear.
