"Ruby, what are you doing here?"
"WHO IS SHE? ANSWER ME ETHAN. THIS GIRL MUST HAVE SOME SORT OF CHOKEHOLD ON YOU!"
"She's nobody you have to worry about. No strings attached, remember?"
"Oh wow, tell me who she is. I'll find out somehow"
"She's my everything. She's MY Dakota. Everyone around me loves her. My friends and family adore her. My friends love her friends! SHE'S SO IMPORTANT TO ME I WOULD DIE FOR HER!"
"No. No don't say that."
I saw the tears in her eyes and her expression was begging me to take it all back.
"I love her Ruby"
"No, you don't."
She shook her head and gasped lightly.
She dropped her bag on the floor and approached me.
"Ruby? Ruby stop. STOP!"
Her hands cupped my face as she pulled me into a deep kiss.
I opened my eyes and saw Jen in the doorway.
When Ruby pulled off of me. She turned around to see what I was looking at.
"Really? You could do so much better."
I was gagged, Jennifer was calm and she meant every word she was breathing out.
She sat at my desk and extended her legs on my desk table.
"Dakota would never be that sloppy. She's organized and I considered her a friend. She was funny."
She looked Ruby up and down and Ruby covered her stomach almost immediately.
"She left an impression. Once you're gone, we'll struggle to remember your name"
Ruby's lips parted in shock.
"Tell me when Dakota reclaims her throne."
With that Jen got up and rolled her suitcase into her room.
Dakota had a volleyball game today.
It's time.
I pushed Ruby aside and ran down the stairs.
"ETHAN, YOU CAN'T DO THIS TO ME"
Well, if you chose to play my game you can't be mad if I win.
I sped through traffic and parked in the school parking lot.
I saw her number and last name.
The game wasn't going right now and I assumed it was half-time. Is there half-time in volleyball? Football is so much simpler.
I was approaching her when I saw Griffin grab her waist.
She threw her arms around his neck and hugged him.
That was what she did to me. She is not going through with what Layla said, right?
Liam walked up to them and seemed to be telling Griffin to back off.
At least Liam has my back, he's making sure Griffin stays away from my girl.
No.
I must have bad eyesight, I thought I just saw Liam kiss MY Dakota.
"Liam."
My cold voice startled Liam and fear was evident in his eyes.
"She's not your girlfriend anymore, Ethan."
"Remember what happened to Griffin for even wanting Dakota? He's family. So not only did you TOUCH her but you're not even family."
Liam looked at Dakota and she stepped forward.
"Ethan, you don't want me. Don't make a scene at my game over an ex"
She mumbled something under her breath and leaned down to fix her kneepads.
I stepped closer to the point where I was towering over her.
"What was that?"
"Nothing"
"Dakota."
"IT'S NOT LIKE YOU EVER CAME TO A GAME BEFORE!!"
She stood up and went back to the court.
The game started.
Liam shrugged and went to his seat.
"No"
"NO!"
Dakota turned to face me for a second before turning her attention to the ball coming straight for her.
I walked onto the court and caught the ball with one hand.
The ref whistled but I didn't care less.
Dakota was backing away from me.
"Ethan, stop."
I grabbed ahold of her waist so she would stop trying to leave me.
I kissed her in front of the crowd. Good
Everyone should know, this is my Dakota.
"I'm sorry Ethan, I messed up."
"Don't be sorry, just love me."
"Well, Griffin just found out about our breakup and made a move, and Liam kissed me to get him away because I was visibly uncomfortable. But I'm not really with Liam, I'm with-"
She stopped talking and sucked in a breath. She glanced over my shoulder and back at me to tell me to look.
I looked behind me and saw a tall guy. Noah Murphy. He's on my football team, of course.
"Sorry, Noah, She's my girlfriend."
Noah narrowed his eyes at me and sighed loudly.
"Dude, you broke up."
I was completely prepared to step to him but Dakota held me back.
"Just, watch?"
"Okay."
I took a seat with Liam and we made up.
I love Dakota.
