do i deserve the closure i've been asking for?

"y/n. hello are you there?" the college building is packed with students around your age, you held your phone close to your ear as you stood waiting outside the building. your eyes watched groups of students, they were all wandering around the gigantic campus, exploring their dream university — trying to memorize every corner for when they get to step a foot as an actual student.

you were one of those hopeful students, in fact it wasn't just you. it used to be two.

you and danielle.

she promised, and it was a foolish thing to do. you remember vividly that night before she had been chosen as an official member of the newjeans line up. danielle called you that night, you were deep into your studies, she was tired from training.

you knew, already that everything was doomed to fall apart even before it did. it was already foreseen before your own eyes. but you let yourself believe a promise you know danielle cannot keep.

"hey, i promise we will apply and take the exam together." you heard her say that night, through the tears you cried at night, busying yourself with your studies, making sure you got good marks, carrying the weighted pressure pulling you down by your shoulders.

you can't be mad at danielle, her purpose was not to break your heart, make false promises but to assure you — because she's afraid that you'll be hurt if you face the truth.

it's just that, she didn't know how to do it right.

for some reason, you tried to not let it pull you down. but as the time passed, her debut, her popularity arisen.

from that friend you met during your applications to a top science and technology high school, from the girl you liked, the girl you cared for — the girl who loved everyone and you.

but she was never yours.

you weren't hers.

now, everybody knows her name, they all love her. screaming her name from a big crowd as she danced and sang her heart out, her dreams were all right in front of her now.

meanwhile, you are still on the process of reaching yours.

and that process feels so hard when the memories of danielle clung in your back, wherever you go, her name is in everyone's mouth.
