"Why me?" I asked, so confused about what Fia just said.

"Well, you said that you can learn from anyone, right?" She said.

"Yes," I answered, still not getting her point.

"That means you have confidence in yourself, you must be strong," she said.

How did she get to that conclusion?

"You believe that you're capable of learning from anyone, and that means you're the strongest one in this class. That's why I'll be your teacher," she explained.

I still don't get her, but if that means I can be her student, it doesn't matter.

"Wait, sorry, but can I say something?" Suddenly, the dark-haired guy with glasses raised his hand and spoke up.

"Yes, what is it?" Fia asked, looking in his direction.

"I'm sorry if you think I'm being rude, but you said that the guy is the strongest here?" He asked.

"Yes, what's the matter?" Fia asked, tilting her head.

"That guy just joined in today, and moreover, he's from the swordsmanship classes. I think, even if you're a teacher, you're being disrespectful to us by saying that he's the strongest," the dark-haired guy with glasses explained.

"But he is though," Fia said, not understanding what the dark-haired guy just said.

"Huh? As I said, he just joined us today-"

Before he could finish his sentence, Fia interrupted him.

"I asked all of you earlier to raise your hand if you wanted to be my student. All of you raised your hand except him, and that means he is confident in his skill to learn even without my teaching, and that's what makes him the strongest," Fia explained.

Now I get what she meant when she said that I'm the strongest. I thought she had a gift that can tell if a person is strong or not, but it seems like I was wrong, and it was only her way of thinking that made her say that.

"I won't accept it. I still believe that I am the most fitting to be your student," the dark-haired guy said, still not backing down.

Maybe he's thinking that if he backs down now, his pride won't allow it.

"Ma'am Fia, as I said earlier, I don't need your teaching. I can learn from anyone, so you can teach him instead," I said.

I don't know what to call her, so I just called her what a student is supposed to call a teacher.

"No, as I said, I'll teach you myself. Listen, everyone, I'm the teacher, and you all are students. I don't care about your opinion if you're the strongest or not. I'm just doing my job here. We'll teach you because Instructor Refu told us to, but it is our choice whom to teach, so I don't care about your opinion. Do you understand?" Fia said in a serious tone.

Unlike before when she was still talking cheerfully, the whole class suddenly went silent, even her classmates who were standing at the front.

"Do you understand?" Fia asked again.

"Yes," everyone said at the same time.

The dark-haired guy couldn't do anything but just back out; he got scared of Fia's sudden seriousness.

"Then okay, all of you partner up quickly now so we won't waste any more time than we already have," she explained, suddenly back to her cheerful mood.

After that, everyone paired up, and all of us finally went out of the classroom.

We were led to the back of the fifth-year students' building. Since this building is at the edge of the whole school, the place was an open grass field.

This island was really vast; the whole school is already big, but that big school was only a quarter of this island.

"Okay, everyone, you can spread out, but don't go too far from here, then you can start your lesson. When the bell rings, that means the classes would end, then let's meet up here again, do you understand?" Fia announced.

"Yes," everyone said at the same time.

After that, Fia and I walked a bit of distance, and when she saw a tree, she smiled.

"Here's fine," she said, then sat under the tree.

I followed suit and sat also, keeping a distance.

"Why are you sitting so far? Come closer," she said, patting the place beside her.

I did what she said and sat beside her.

"Then let's introduce ourselves first. I'm Fia, an advanced earth magician. Nice to meet you," she introduced herself.

She's an advanced earth magician already? Just how strong is she?

"I'm Will, a first-year student. I didn't learn any earth magic spells yet, so I hope you can help me. Nice to meet you," I introduced myself.

"As I thought, you're Mister William's son, right?" Fia asked, her eyes sparkling with excitement.

"Huh? You know my father?" I asked, surprised after hearing my father's name.

"Yes, Mister William is someone special to me," she said.

"Special?" I asked again.

"Yeah, he once saved my life," she said, then smiled as if she's remembering it.

It was painted on her face that she didn't want to talk about the details, so I won't ask anything.

"I won't ask for the details, but how did you notice that I'm his son? Maybe you're mistaking him for someone else? There are so many people named William, after all," I asked.

"You have a similar face, so I just thought it could be you. I also met him a while back, and he said that his son is about to attend the academy, so he requested that I should watch over you," she explained.

"Our faces aren't similar, though," I said, unable to believe how she managed to tell that I'm my father's son.

"No, you're very similar, if you ask me," she insisted.

"Okay, okay, we'll leave it at that. So, that means you owe my father, so he asked you to watch over me?" I asked.

"Yeah, that's right," she answered, then smiled.

"Is it because of that that you paired up with me?" I asked again.

"Yeah, that's right," she answered.

"And your explanation earlier about why I'm the strongest?" I asked again.

"Ah! I just made it up," she said, then laughed.

"I thought so," I said in a monotone voice.

I can't believe myself; I just believed her because it seemed convincing, but it was just something she made up on the spot.

"But I know you're the strongest in that class since you're Mister William's son, after all," she said.

"You really look up to my father, huh?" I said, then looked at her smiling face.

"With that, I now know who I am supposed to watch over. I'm glad to make your acquaintance. You can come to me if you ever need help, Will," she said.

"Yeah, I'm glad to make your acquaintance too, Miss Fia," I said.

"Then let's start our lesson now. Instructor Refu told me to show the first years how to cast rock bullet, but you already learned it, right?" she said.

"I don't even know the incantations yet," I replied.

"Eh? Is that so? Then let me teach you," she said, and began guiding me through the basics.

Time flew by, and soon the bell rang, indicating the end of our first training session. Miss Fia and I made our way back to the designated meeting spot where the other students were gathering.
