Both Byen and I left the clinic and started walking toward the place he wanted to talk.
Maybe he wants to talk about Raiden getting caught in trouble because of me and about to be sent to the battlefield. I braced myself for him blaming me. It is really my fault, so I won't be able to do anything other than apologize.
We continued walking and passed the cafeteria, which I thought was our destination.
Maybe he sensed my confusion because he looked back at me. "We're almost there," he said, then continued walking.
I followed after him upon hearing that. He walked too fast for me to keep up, if not for all the running we did in Instructor Gord's class. Just how fast can this guy walk?
I was panting when we reached our destination, and it made me surprised and anxious when I realized where we were. We were now behind the fourth-year students' dorm.
Byen noticed and saw my expression. "Do you know this place?" he asked in a monotonous tone.
"Yeah, I know it very well," I answered, smiling ironically.
"Then why does it look like you're uncomfortable being here?" he asked in the same monotonous tone.
"Well, whenever I come here, it's always trouble that comes next," I answered.
The first time I was here, I protected Crestia from Alad and Werk. The second time was when Cirris tricked us into thinking he was also being bullied by Alad and proposed a cooperation.
He can't blame me for being uncomfortable because every time I'm here, it's always one trouble after another.
"Let's go find another place then," he said, starting to walk.
"No, it's okay. If we go find another place, then lunch time would already be over before we even got to talk," I said, convincing him that here was fine.
"Okay then, I'll cut to the chase already because, as you said, lunch time is almost over," he said. "Do you want to save Raiden?"
Huh? Where did that come from? I thought he was about to scold and blame me for Raiden's involvement in my case, but instead, he's asking if I want to save Raiden.
It took me a moment to fully grasp what he said because it was so unexpected, but I answered quickly. "Of course, I would do anything to save Raiden," I answered sincerely.
"Good, that's what I wanted to hear," he said, smiling slightly. "Then would you cooperate with me to save him?" he asked.
"Wait, can we slow down? I can't process everything instantly because you keep jumping from one thing to another," I said.
"Oh, I'm sorry," he said.
"Can you explain everything slowly? Wait, can I ask what your connection to Raiden is?" I asked.
"Okay, Raiden and I were childhood friends, so I want to save him. Is that a good enough reason?" he said.
Well, it's not like I can't understand him because I also want to save my childhood friend. But how can we save them?
"Okay, I understand. Then do you know a way to save them?" I asked.
"I know a way to save them. Can you guess what it is?" he said, as if testing me.
"Hmm, break into the correction facility and escape from this school?" I said.
He made a disappointed expression after that. Why are you asking me to guess? If I knew a way to save them, I would have done it already.
"Do you know just how hard that thing you suggested is? In the history of this school, only five students managed to escape out of thousands who tried," he explained.
"Well, sorry for that. I just don't really have any idea," I said, looking at him as if saying, "Just say it already."
He sensed it and immediately got to the point. "Well, to make it short, all I need is your full cooperation," he said.
"If it's for Raiden and my other friends, I would gladly do everything you order me to do," I answered.
"Then can I take that as a sign that both of us now have a cooperative relationship? And that you would do anything I tell you?" he asked.
"Honestly, I don't have any trust in you yet, but if it's to save my friends, then I'll take this gamble," I answered.
"That's what I wanted to hear," he said. "Let's start right here, right now, because we don't have much time. Your first mission is to secure a meeting with the principal," he said.
"Huh? For what?" I asked.
"I'll explain everything at the right time. For now, just trust me and do what I ask you to do because it's to save Raiden and your friends," he said.
This guy is suspicious. I must not let my guard down, but I would still do what he asked if there's any chance that following him would save my friends. I'll take the risk for it.
"All I need to do is secure a meeting with that piggy, right?" I asked.
"Pfft!" He suddenly let out a small burst of laughter.
"Huh?" I was confused why he suddenly laughed.
When he heard that, he switched back to his nonchalant expression. "Yes, that's all you need to do for now. Report to me if you secure a meeting, then I will give the next order," he said as if his earlier laugh didn't happen.
"How can I contact you? Should I go to your dorm?" I asked.
"No, that's too dangerous. How about meeting here every lunchtime?" he suggested.
"Okay, I understand," I said.
"Then I would leave it to you," he said.
"Yeah, leave it to me. I'll save my friends," I said.
After that, the bell started ringing, signaling that lunch time was over.
"Let's leave it here. It seems like lunch is already over. I apologize for taking too much time. See you tomorrow," he said, then started walking.
"I understand. See you tomorrow," I said, watching his back as he left.
