Gabby's POV

🚨Flashback🚨

After returning home from a long walk with Diamond, first thing I do is wipe her paws at the front door. She is not the biggest fan of this but I don't want to have to clean paw prints off of my white rug later on.

So she'll have to deal with it.

She whines as I wipe her feet. After I'm done, I pop my protein waffles into the toaster and make my way upstairs. I pull my hat and my steam cap off of my deep conditioned hair and I take my clothes off.

I know for a fact that today isn't going to go well unless I am feeling my absolute best. That means getting in a good morning workout, taking an everything shower, eating a good breakfast and of course, washing my hair.

Feeling brand new is the only thing that helps me when I get those old feelings. And I know today will be hard. I'm supposed to be meeting Jordan today and he should be here fairly soon.

I sigh as I enter the shower to finish my routine. Before I know it, my doorbell is ringing. I look at myself in the mirror one more time and give myself a pep talk. I'm ready to do this.

I think.

I go downstairs where Diamond sits and waits for me to open the door for her favorite person. As soon as the door open, she wags her tail and rubs her head into Jordan's leg.

He gives her all the love she wants. When Diamond seems content, he stands up in front of me and hand me a bouquet of flowers. I smell the pink roses and smile.

"What are these for?" I ask him.

"For you," he says smiling back at me. I refrain from asking anymore questions. He steps closer and wraps his arms around me tightly before leaving a soft kiss on my cheek.

Which is still weird.

How fast I've gone from not wanting him anywhere near me to needing him by my side at a time like this.

"Thank you. They're beautiful," I say giving them one more whiff.

"Ready to do this?" he asks me and I nod. "Maya still can't make it?" he asks and unfortunately not. She's out of town and will be for a while. But she made me promise that I wouldn't push this back because of her having to leave.

So I'm keeping my promise.

I can't help but feel nervous as we make our way into the kitchen. I have two things to do today. One is to call my parents and explain everything to them. And the other is to make my police report with the detective Jordan referred me to via zoom.

Just the thought of telling my parents that I've been keeping this from them this long makes my throat go dry. Which is why I refrained from telling them in person. Which is only for my benefit because I know my parents won't like that I'm not telling them this in person.

I sit at my kitchen table. Jordan leaves a light and feathery kiss on my forehead before sitting across from me.

"I'm right here and I'm not leaving you," he says giving me the reassurance I need to dial my mother's number. I dial and she picks up on the first ring. It's early so I imagine her sitting on the porch reading her Bible like she does every other morning.
