A Pain To Overcome

VI - Engaged

Astrid's POV

It's been a few days and Raixi's doing great. She's been active and the doctors said din na she's on a stable condition. Im so happy about this. Really.

I told you, my Raixi is strong.

"Nagtatampo ako sa'yo so don't talk to me." Raixi said.

"What? Why?" I asked.

"I told you not to shave your head!" She said and i laughed.

"It's looks ok naman, para nga couple tayo." I said.

Yes. I shaved my head kanina. Even though she told me not to. I want to. Raixi has been insecure ever since her hair started falling out to the point that we have to shave it. So i shaved my head for her. I don't care. I don't care of what people are gonna say because after all, they don't know me. They don't know what we're going through.

"You're still so beautiful though." She said but she still has her arms crossed and still looking away.

"Paano ka pa? You're gorgeous, mahal. Ang ganda-ganda mo pa rin." I said and she's trying to stop herself from smiling.

"Let me see that smile, love." I said and she covered her face that made me laugh.

I sat beside her on her bed and she leaned her head on my shoulder.

"Thank you." She said.

"For what?" I asked.

"For doing all of this for me." She said and i held her hand.

"I told you, you don't have to thank me, Rai. Im doing all of this for you because i want to. I willingly did this because I love you. And nothing can change that. Mahal na mahal kita, Rai to the point that im willing to do everything to be with you 'til my last breath." I said.

"So am i. Im actually really glad. Just by hearing Doc. Vargas say those words na nagiging maayos na ulit ang condition ko, makes me the happiest. Kinakaya ko, mahal." She said and i nodded.

"Exactly. Your really strong. Im so proud of you. Let's continue doing it this way for your fast recovery, ok?" I said and she nodded.

"We're going to Paris pa, i can't miss that." She said and i laughed.

"Right. We'll celebrate our second anniversary there." I said.

"I want honeymoon agad." She said as i hit her arm and she laugh.

"You'll get that soon." I said.

"Will you marry me after ko gumaling?" She asked as i looked at her and she looks so sincere.

"Yes, i will marry you, Rai. Consider it as a reward then. Let's get married once you recovered. That's a promise." I said and she smiled.

"Oh so you're my fiancée now." She said teasingly

"Where's the ring?" I asked and we both laughed.

She looked at her hand and took the ring that came from her great grandmother.

"This ring has been here for many generations, this came from my great grandmother. She passed it to grammy then grammy passed it to mom and lastly to me. Well now, this will be yours, mahal. This is important to me as well as you. Can you stand up for me?" She said as i just obeyed her.

She did the same and looked if my phone is still recording, once she was sure she kneeled in front of me and i suddenly got teary eyed.

"This may not be a good proposal since it's sudden and we're here at the hospital pa and.. we're both not prepared pero i love you, Astrid. So much. I'll recover really fast so that i can see you walking on the aisle in your white beautiful gown. I want to put two rings on your ring finger. This will be the first one for now. Astrid Eloise Figuero, will you marry me after i recover?" She said and of course I said yes.

She smiled as she put the ring on my finger and stood up. I hugged her immediately and started sobbing on her shoulders.

"Im sorry if ganito ang naging proposal ko, Astrid. Pero sigurado na ako sa'yo, mahal. I want to live with you 'til my last breath." She said and i shaked my head.

"No. Don't apologize. Kahit saan ka pa magpropose, Rai. I'll accept it. Siguradong sigurado na rin ako sa'yo. Let's promise each other that we'll get married, ha? No one will leave no one." I said as i made her face me.

"Yes. I won't. I won't leave. We'll marry each other then let's build a happy family together, hm?" She said and i nodded.

"Mahal na mahal kita, Astrid. More than anything. I'll give you everything that i can possibly give." She said.

"I love you more." I said and i gave her a kiss.

We looked at each other and we both laughed. She wiped my tears and kissed my forehead.

"Let's be strong together." She said.

"Gusto ko lang naman i-check si Rai, bakit may proposal na naganap." We heard Doc. Vargas and we saw him by the doorway. He's crying.

"Grabe kayo, payakap nga." He said and he hugged the both of us.

"Tama 'yan, maging matapang kayo para sa isa't isa. Kayang kaya 'yan." He said and we both nodded.

"Ok let's do the check-up. Pinaiyak niyo pa muna ako, may penalty 'yan." He said and we laughed.

I hope this continues. I hope she continues to be like this. Sana maging ok na ang lahat. I'll willingly give everything just to save and let Raixi live longer with me.
