Shravan's POV

After dropping Advika to her home I went to that place because I was missing her and it took me around one more hour to come back home.

I couldn't believe that Aadvika's mother is fighting with cancer. She is such a lively person that no one could tell she is in pain.

As I entered the hall, I saw my father having his dinner. I tried my best to ignore him and head straight to my room. He must have noticed me passing by, but he didn't say anything and continued eating as if I was just a passing shadow in the house.

I was on the first stair when my mother called me from behind.

"Oh you got late"

Feeling irritated and not in the mood to talk to anyone, I turned around to reply to her, "Yes, I was in a meeting."

"I was also in the same meeting, but I came early. What took you so long?" my father interjected, as he always did, inserting himself into our conversation.

My fist tightened, and my jaw clenched together in frustration.

Why did he have to interfere between me and my mother?

It seemed like he couldn't resist asserting himself and trying to control everything, even the simplest of conversations.

"Mom, tell him that I am no longer a kid!" I exclaimed, my frustration finally spilling over. I didn't want to talk to him or have him constantly monitoring my every move.

My mother looked at me with a mixture of concern and understanding. "Your father just worries about you, Shravan," she said calmly. "You know how he is."

"I don't need him to worry about me," I replied, my voice tinged with annoyance. "I am perfectly capable of handling my own life and I could see how much worried he was" My eyes moved down to the plate which was full of food and he was eating as if there was no tomorrow.

"I forced him to have something. You know he is diabetic and has to take something after every two hours," my mother said, trying to defend my father's actions.

I know mother was doing this because she doesn't want me to take him wrong but I know this reality and how much he cares for his children. But instead of are going with her I choose to stay silent. I can't ruin the mood of my mother for him.

"Come let's have dinner" she proposed.

"I am not hungry," I replied, making my way up a few more stairs, wanting some distance from the situation.

"Only a girl could put him into place" I heard Mr. Singhania again poke his nose in my business by passing comment.

Feeling a surge of anger, I turned to face him.

"I want a girl to be my wife, not a rehabilitation center," I retorted sharply before climbing up to my room and shutting the door tightly.

Prem's uncle told me how he was a completely spoiled man before my mother entered his life and she changed him completely. He thinks that same would happen with me but I am not him.

I needed to clear my mind first so I first went to take a shower and as I came out of the bathroom I heard a gentle knock on the door.

"Shravan" my mother called out softly when I didn't respond.

I sighed heavily and left with no other option I opened the door to find my mother standing there with a plate full of food.

"Mom, I told you I am not hungry," I said out of frustration.

"Do you think I can sleep soundly when I know that you haven't eaten anything?" she replied, her concern evident in her eyes.

"Mom!"

I knew my mother too well. She always took advantage of my love for her to make sure I took care of myself. Resigned to the fact that she wouldn't leave until I had something to eat, I stepped aside, allowing her to enter the room. She placed the tray on the bed, gesturing for me to sit with her.

She took a spoonful of rice and lifted it to my lips as I sat in front of her. I couldn't resist myself from opening my mouth.

"You ate?" I asked her and she shook her head.

I knew my mother well. She wouldn't have anything until she was sure that all of us had eaten to our fill. It was a testament to her selfless nature and unconditional love for her family.

Then we fed each other. She broke the silence when I was almost full.

"You know he used to call you caterpillars," Mom said and I clearly know whom she is referring to.

"Mom, if you want to take his side then I don't want to talk to you" I turned my face aside.

"Why do you hate him so much, Shravan? He has equally loved you and Arya. Yes, I know sometimes he becomes strict in the office but that is also important for your well-being as it is you who has to take up all the responsibility" She paused for a second but I didn't move from my place "What has he done to receive so much hate from you?"

"You know, Mother, what he has done," I replied, my voice heavy with emotion. "And I can never forgive him for that."

"You will regret treating him this way when you come to know the truth," she said cryptically.

"I already know the truth," I said, my heart clenching at the memories.

She closed her eyes for a second and exhaled a deep breath.

"Shravan, marry someone" she opened her eyes "If you want I can find a suitable girl for ..."

"Mom, do you also want this?" I asked her.

A tense silence settled between us, broken only by the sound of thunder outside.

"Yes" her voice was barely audible "I also want you to settle down and take up some responsibilities"

Her words caught me off guard. I had always assumed that my mother understood my pain and supported me in my decisions. But now, it seemed like she was also speaking from the perspective of her husband. Despite my conflicted feelings, I loved my mother deeply, and for her, I was willing to sacrifice my own happiness if it meant making her happy.

"Okay, if you want this, I will marry," I said, blinking back my emotions. "Soon."

She placed her palm over my shoulder and squeezed it gently.

"Thank you, beta. We love you" she kissed my forehead "Good night"

"Good night, Mom"

Left alone with my thoughts, I felt a storm brewing inside me, mirroring the thundering clouds outside

I was lost in her thoughts, missing her badly when my phone started ringing all of a sudden and I was surprised to find that the call was from Aadvika.

What happened that she is calling me at such a time?

Without making any assumptions I just picked up the call.

"Shravan..." Her voice was trembling and she was taking deep breaths as if she was in need  "Please, please come to my home"

She sobbed loudly

"I need your help"

All I could hear from the back was the loud painful cries of her mother which tensed me even more.
