"Hey, Vicky! Mom's calling you, supper's ready"

"Yeah, yeah. I'm coming," I answered.

It was my dad. Well, my stepdad, Josh. Personally, I don't like him. Why? Well, let me explain.

7 years ago (I'm 14 now, meaning that I was 7 when it happened), my mom and dad had a lot of arguments, which gave them the conclusion to choose a divorce, which was right after my mom gave birth to my little brother, Chris. As you've probably guessed, my siblings and I had to live with our mom and visit our father on the weekends, according to the judge. 7 years later, yet 2 months ago, my mom announced to us that she was going to marry a man, named Josh. Obviously, none of us knew who he was. Our mother then explained that she met him for a few months and they slowly caught feelings for each other. Then, he proposed to her and she agreed.

What's annoying and suspicious about this, is that she never told us about that man. She always tells us everything and explains to us how everything went. For example, after an outing with her friends, she'd always explain to us how it went in detail. But, she never told us any stories about her meeting Josh or hanging out with him during the "few months" that my mom met him. Not to mention, she didn't even give us the chance to get to know him before marriage. They just straight out got married. The first time I saw him, was at church, at their wedding.

Now, he lives with us and we've known him for 2 months so far, which isn't a lot. You can say that when children meet their stepfather or stepmother, they don't get along well at first. But, after some time, they slowly start to like each other. That's probably what's going to happen to me and my siblings.

So, I don't like him, nor do I trust him. Is he mean to me? Well, no. He's treating me and my siblings nicely, but none of us like him for that reason. Honestly, I don't even allow him to take our father's place. And who knows? Maybe he's just pretending. Maybe he's a hypocrite who deceived our mom and is playing with her.

I went downstairs to eat supper and I saw both of my brothers sitting on the table while my mom was putting the food on the table. Oh right! I forgot to introduce them to you. I have an older brother, Mike, and a younger brother (which I believe I did mention), Chris. Mike is 16 years old and Chris is 7 years old.

"Yay! We're eating lasagna for dinner!" the little boy exclaimed, as soon as he looked into the food my mom put.

Josh sniffed and said

"Mmh...smells good. Can't wait to eat your cooking, darling"

My mom smiled at him and kissed his cheek. Chris then pouted as soon as he saw Mom put another plate of food on the table.

"Oh, man. I don't want to eat vegetables"

"You have to, it's good for your health," said Josh.

"I wasn't talking to you, Josh," says Chris, rolling his eyes.

As I mentioned, I'm not the only one who dislikes him. My siblings have the same thoughts as mine about him.

"Chris, don't speak like that," my mom said to Chris, with an angry face.

My little brother didn't say anything. He instead just frowned at our stepdad. Whenever my mom interferes when we speak to her husband, we have no choice but to obey and stay quiet. Even though our mom did something that is frustrating to us, which is marrying someone none of us know, we still love and respect our mother.

After supper, I went to my room and lay down on my bed. I felt like I wanted to talk to someone. So, I picked up my phone and decided to call my friend, Sabrina.

"Hey, Sabrina!"

"Hey Vicky"

"How are you? How's ballet practice?"
