"What should we do now!?" my best friend asked.
"There's no point in returning all these hints to where they were. We don't have time to do that, either way," I whispered "We have to do something..."
"Oh no no no no no," Sabrina said, still anxious.
"Well, it's not like he'll know it was us," I said.
"Huh? What are you talking about?"
"Phil doesn't know that we know that Josh tricked us with a fake statue. Phil probably still thinks that we believe that what was inside the box was a sculpture. Josh admitted to the mustache guy that he'll fool anyone by showing them a statue if anyone finds out about the box, including us, right? So, he doesn't know that we suspect them and that we'll go into his house to take some stuff. He'll think it was someone else," I explained.
"...so, you're telling me that all we have to do is just leave the house," she whispered.
"Yeah," I nodded "let's just get out of here, from the back door, without him noticing"
"ok"
Phil walked into his room, it was our chance to escape. We successfully left the house without letting him know. When we both left, we heard a phone ringing. It was Sabrina's. She took it out and answered the call.
"Yeah, auntie. Don't worry, I'm coming home" said the beautiful girl before she hung up.
"Well, not gonna lie, that was scary," the beautiful girl said.
"At least we went out," I responded "Anyways, let's go home"
"Yeah, let's go"
We both walked back home. When I arrived, I saw Dad's car outside, meaning that he was there. I knew I was screwed, I knew that my father will kill me. I eventually opened the door. When I stepped inside, I saw Dad standing behind the door, looking at me. I immediately freaked out when I saw him.
"Hey calm down. Jeez..." Dad said.
After I calmed down, he asked me
"Why did you yell? Why did you get scared?"
"I just...didn't expect to find you behind the door all of a sudden" I responded, acting innocent.
"I see..." he mumbled.
I took a deep breath and said
"I'm sorry Dad"
"For what?"
"I should have told you where I was going. I also shouldn't have just left the house without permission"
"Well, you texted me, didn't you? You asked me if you could go out with Sabrina, told me where you were going and I gave you permission for you to go. So, why should I be mad for that?" he said, pulling out his phone and showing me the text messages that we've sent each other.
"Wait...you're not mad?"
"No," he said "At least not for this one, I'm disappointed about something else"
Well, I forgot that I texted my father and let him know and got permission from him before I left the house. It's a good thing I did that, otherwise I could've been caught. But why else was he mad? I immediately understood why when I saw him scroll through our text messages and showe me his recent text. The last message he sent was 'Wait for me, I'm coming to drive you there'.
"Oh..." I said.
"When I came inside, I didn't see you inside. When I asked your brother, he told me that you left. Why did you leave immediately when I told you to wait for me?" he asked, with an unhappy voice. "I know I could've just called or texted you to tell you this, but I felt like I wanted to wait for you until you arrived home"
"Sorry, Dad. Right when I asked if I could go out and you texted 'Sure, I don't mind', I put my phone away and instantly left the house, happy that I got to hang out with my friend. I didn't see the last text message you sent," I answered, honestly.
He sighed, put his phone away, and said
"It's fine. Just pay attention next time, ok?"
I nodded. We stood silent for a second, then looked at my arm. I was carrying the hints with my arm.
"What are those?" Dad asked.
I had to think of a lie, or he'll suspect me. I eventually came up with one and told him
"Oh, it's something that has to do with me and Sabrina. She gave me those for something"
"For what?" he asked again.
I could tell that he now suspected me. I didn't know what to say until I thought of a new lie.
"Well...it's something that we'll use for a project in art class. We both separated the job and now, we each have a task to complete to finish this art project. The book and the 2 papers I'm holding are part of the project that we'll do"
The book that I was holding was Phil's diary and the 2 papers were the picture of him and his daughter and the letter that showed that he was going on vacation. He didn't say anything for a moment, observing the objects I was holding. Then he nodded and said
"Ok then. Well, I'm glad that you're safe"
I took a deep breath, happy that he didn't suspect me.
"Well, I'll go to my room now," I said and walked back to my room.
When I arrived in my room, I closed the door, put the clues away, and lay down on my bed. I was relieved that my father didn't know that something was up, but the problem was that Phil has now no doubts that someone entered his home. Either way, I decided to get ready for bed.
Oh, and if you're wondering how I was able to hold the hints when one of my arms is broken. Well, let's say that I wasn't holding much stuff, it was only the diary, the picture, and the letter, so it wasn't heavy or hard. It may have been a little difficult for me to open the door when I arrived home just now because of the stuff I was holding, but not THAT difficult, compared to when I was packing my luggage 4 days ago, when Mike and I had to leave our mother's home and live with our Dad's.
To be continued.
