Valentina's pov

"Are you fucking serious?" Gina asks shocked about what I told her about my mom and Coach Sanders.

How the hell did this even happen? When my mom told me the story of how her and Coach Sanders met, I was flabbergasted. They met through one of the games! No wonder she took forever to get home, I had to ride back with my brother.

Speaking of my brother, he had to go back to Mexico to grab his stuff. He has a few things he needs to get to officially move in with us.

"Dude I swear on my life." I say, and gesture a cross around my chest, as I'm seated on the lunch booth.

"That's fucking crazy, I didn't even think your mom was interested in women." Gina says, adjusting the strings on her backpack.

"I didn't think so either. I feel like it's going to be awkward during practice." I say, taking a bite out of my salad.

"Nah I don't really think so, she's your favorite." Gina giggles, looking at her phone typing away. I'm assuming she's texting Fernanda from her big grin that's plastered across her face.

I'm so happy for her. I wish I had someone to make me happy and to make me feel loved, maybe one day!

Speaking of love, I'm trying my absolute best to avoid Jay. I don't really like him that way, but I also feel bad for saying no to him. He's been nothing but nice to me, and I don't want to be rude. When he asked me to hang out, I had to decline. However, he said that it could be as friends, and as he said that, I couldn't say no. I had to agree.

I'm hoping that I made the right decision. Beside that, I've been thinking about Heaven. Did she figure out who's threatening me? Also, why has it stopped? Did Heaven scare them away? So many thoughts are bottling up in my head and I don't know what to do. My thoughts are interrupted as I hear someone faintly call my name.

"Valentina!" Gina says loudly, snapping her fingers to get me out of my thoughts.

"Huh?" I ask confused, but Gina points her fingers to Jay, who's sitting right next to me smiling with his yellow teeth.

"Hey Valentina. You never answered me back, so I just wanted to make sure you're okay." He clears his throat. Gina and I share glances at each other, while I look at her for a sign of help.

"Yeah, I'm sorry I've been busy. I'm good though, thanks for checking up on me." I respond, feeling uncomfortable from the way he's intensely staring at me.

"No worries. Would you want to hang out today?" He questions, but before I can give him a answer, Gina answers for me.

"Actually, sorry but today she has cheerleading practice, and Coach Sanders said we aren't getting out till late." Gina interrupts.

Thank you Gina!

Still though, that doesn't stop Jay from convincing me.

"I don't mind. After football practice, we can you know.... chill somewhere. Maybe get something to eat. My treat, of course." He says, trying to beguile me into going out with him.

Should I? Will it be bad? I think so, but do I have anything else better to do?

"Fine." I simply reply, and he beams like a child before he gets up and touches my shoulder, which causes me to shift from my seat and flinch a little.

"See you then." He whispers, trying to sound cute but in reality, his voice croaks causing me to giggle. Jay takes his hand off my shoulder and walks away from embarrassment.

"What the fuck, why are you going to hang out with him? You know he hangs out with Alan right? He's totally going to play you!" Gina warns.

"I don't know, he seems different with me." I shrug. Gina rolls her eyes at me, and mumbles a, "whatever". The bell then rings, which means it's time to go to class.
