1st person's POV (Reader)

I grabbed my gear and ran out the door. Being late to forest ranger's meetings had been happening more and more often to me lately, but I was supposed to help with the preparations today. I had to switch shirts last minute because I coughed blood onto it, I'd have to ask Tighnari about that. I suddenly couldn't get air and dropped to the ground. Leaning on my hands I sat there, feeling it in my throat. The bright yellow Ambrosia spewed on the path, leaving me with a weird taste in my mouth. I'd been coughing up flowers for a while, but I felt like I was making up reasons to be around Tighnari. But if I were making things up, this wouldn't be laying in front of me. I got up, wiped my mouth with the back of my hand and started running again. I'd be even later now. Luckily Tighnari never seemed to mind, he always just smiled at me when I came in. God, his smile was so mesmerising. The way his ears twitch when I start speaking, the way his tail swooshes when he almost loses balance...

An arm suddenly caught my waist.
'Wow, careful!' a warm voice spoke near my ear. I felt heat rise to my face, recognising the voice.
'You almost walked into that door, are you alright?' worry seeped through his voice. I turned to face him and tried to hide my embarrassment. Man up Y/n, you're supposed to be a cool guy around this beauty of a man, otherwise he'll never like you.
'Er, yeah, I'm fine. Thank you,' I smiled at him. I only now realised Tighnari's hand was still resting against my torso. My eyes slightly widened as I froze, hoping he wouldn't notice and leave his hand there. His touch made me feel warm inside.
 'Y/n?' I realised I was staring.
'Oh, sorry,' I laughed it off, my eyes darting away. Tighnari's eyes scanned over me and his hand left my side, leaving a disappointed feeling in my stomach. That didn't last long though, as he took my hand and pulled me along.

'But- The meeting hall is the other way-'
'Collei can handle it,' Tighnari cut me off, 'You need a check-up.'

I willingly walked along, slowing my step because I was a faster walker than Tighnari. He pulled me into his hut, making my ears go warm again. As he sat me down on a chair my eyes roamed the room, scanning the plant drawings on the walls and the documents spread around on the desk. My eyes stuck to one certain page with a list of symptoms, but before I could read them my attention diverted to the man I so dearly loved.

'Do you want something to eat?' It almost seemed like he cared. I shook my head.
'No, thank you, I'm not hungry,' I told him. He frowned as he turned away to grab some tools.
'Can you take your shirt off please?'

The question shocked me and I stammered a yes before pulling my shirt over my head. He just needed to check my breathing, right? The idea of his hands touching my chest made my face flush and I shuffled uncomfortably, suddenly very aware I wasn't as buff as I'd like him to see me. Just a medical procedure, I kept telling myself. I looked for a distraction. My eyes slipped back to the document I'd seen, now able to read the list:

-
Symptoms (not limited to):
Fever
Uncontrollable shaking
Loss of appetite
Low body temperature
Hallucinations
Coughing up flowers, blood cloths and/or pieces of lung
-

'Hey Tighnari,' his ears perked up and he turned to me, 'what is that folder about?' He looked at me for a second, blinked and went to pick it up from the floor next to the desk. He handed it over to me and told me I could read it. After he handed it over he took his glove off and his hand pressed against my forehead. His eyes lingered on my bare chest a little bit longer than I'd assume was normal, before his eyes darted away.
'Mhm.' I tilted my head at him, confused.
'Your face feels weirdly cold,' he continued, 'yet you're displaying signs of a fever.'

I perked up, maybe I could help!
'I read the list of symptoms in this folder and it says fevers and low body temperature are both symptoms, as are the loss of appetite and the flowers and blood I've been coughing up. Maybe it's this,' I closed the folder and read the front, 'Hanahaki Disease,' I said. As I looked up, I found Tighnari with a shocked expression. His brown-green eyes held a deep pain that confused me.
'You... No. Please tell me you don't...' he stammered as he turned away and went to lean on his desk. He stared outside. I was left on his bed, confused, clenching my shirt in my hands. Did I stay something stupid?

'Who?' he asked, still staring outside.

 'What?'
'Who made you hurt like this? Who left you longing?'
'Tighnari, what do you mean??' I asked, filled with questions. Tighnari whipped his head around, tears in his eyes.
'Hanahaki is what you get when you love someone and they don't love you back! Now who did this to you?' I looked back at him, my mouth slightly agape. I'd dropped my shirt on the bed and fiddled with my fingers, figuring out what to say.

'It was you from the day I set foot in Gandharva Ville.'

His face changed. I couldn't understand what emotion was flashing across his face, so I buried my head in my hands.
'I messed it all up, didn't I?' I mumbled, 'I shouldn't have told you, I'm sorry,' I rambled as I grabbed my shirt and got up to walk out of the hut.

A slender hand wrapped around my wrist.
 'Wait.'

I turned around and promptly my lips hit his. At first I just stood there, but then I kissed back. His hand slipped into my hair as I cupped his face, losing myself in his skin. When we stopped, breathing heavily, Tighnari softly pushed my head against his and we stood there for a good while, our foreheads touching as I took in his scent. His tail was curled around his left ankle, I noticed. Tighnari opened his eyes and looked me in mine.
'Why did you never tell me?'

'I didn't think you'd like me too..' He slightly stepped away, looked shocked, almost angry.
'You feared I wouldn't like YOU?  Have you seen yourself?? You're sweet and funny and- and caring and gentle and tough, and you're hot I mean look at you-' I realised I still wasn't wearing my shirt and looked around trying to find it, as I'd discarded it somewhere on the floor during our kiss. Tighnari stopped me with his hand touching my chest.
'Don't,' his clear voice whispered. I felt heat flush my face again and I pulled him in for another kiss. I let go and whispered, 'Be my boyfriend?'

His smile could've made the sun jealous as he leaned against me.
 'Of course.'

Fin.

Help that was the first kiss I've ever written

I'm working on more Hanahaki chapters, but!!!! I'm also working on the Ledus since I just want to get that story done, but as you know it'll all take me a while haha

In this particular chapter I choose the type of Hanahaki you can also get when you don't know the other person likes you too, even if they did so for as long as you have liked them :) Hope it didn't confuse you
