As Sunoo's body went limp in his arms, Heeseung felt a rush of panic surge through him. His heart pounded as he adjusted Sunoo in his hold, cradling the smaller boy against his chest. Sunoo's face was alarmingly pale, his breathing shallow and Heeseung’s mind raced in panic trying to figure out what to do.
With trembling hands, he fished his phone out of his pocket and quickly dialed Jay's number. His voice was shaky, barely above a whisper as he tried to keep calm but the desperation was clear in his tone.
“Jay, I need you to bring the car to the park near Kai's house... right now.” his voice cracked as he held Sunoo closer, feeling the warmth of his body against his chest.
On the other end, Jay immediately sensed the urgency in his friend's voice. “What's going on? Are you okay?”
Heeseung swallowed hard, glancing down at Sunoo's unconscious form. “It's Sunoo... He passed out. I don’t know what happened, but he’s burning up. Please, hurry.”
Jay didn’t need more explanation. He quickly agreed, his voice steady, “We’re on our way. Hang tight.”
Hanging up, Heeseung anxiously scanned the surroundings, his eyes darting around as if someone might be able to help. But the park was eerily quiet. All Heeseung could do was stand there, holding Sunoo securely, his eyes never leaving the younger one’s face.
After what felt like an eternity, Heeseung finally spotted Jay’s car pulling up with Jungwon in the passenger seat. They hurried out of the car and Jungwon’s eyes immediately widened in horror as he saw Sunoo limp in Heeseung’s arms.
He sprinted toward them with his heart in his throat as his voice came out in a growl. “What did you do to Sunoo this time?” he snapped, eyes blazing with anger as he glared at the older boy, his protective instincts on full display.
Heeseung, who had been staring at Sunoo with nothing but worry, flinched at the harsh accusation. His lips parted but no sound came out for a moment, taken aback by Jungwon's anger.
“I-I didn’t do anything! He suddenly passed out on my shoulder. I swear, I did nothing to him!” His voice trembled, his eyes pleading as he looked between Jungwon and Jay, desperate for them to believe him.
But Jungwon wasn’t convinced. His gaze never softened as he scrutinized Heeseung’s face, trying to discern the truth. “Then why are his nose, cheeks, and ears red?” Jungwon growled as he checked Sunoo’s temperature, the heat radiating from his skin made his anger flare even more. “OMG, He’s burning up! His fever’s not gone yet!”
Heeseung’s eyes slightly widened as the word from Jungwon's lips settled in. “Fever? I-I didn’t know he had a fever.” he stammered, his voice dropping into a soft murmur. “I didn’t know... I really didn’t.” The guilt began to gnaw at him, realizing how oblivious he had been to Sunoo’s condition.
Jungwon's expression darkened, his voice cutting through Heeseung’s thoughts like a knife. “And you say you care about him? You didn’t even notice he’s been sick since morning?” The disappointment in Jungwon’s voice was evident and Heeseung could only look down, ashamed.
Jay noticed the escalating tension, deciding to step in, “Jungwon, let’s get him to the apartment first. We can talk later.”
Heeseung nodded in agreement, feeling utterly useless as he continued to hold Sunoo, who remained unconscious in his arms. Without another word, He carefully carried Sunoo to the back seat of the car, gently placing him down and making sure his head rested on his chest. He wrapped his arm around Sunoo’s shoulders, pulling him closer for warmth.
Taking off his black leather jacket, he draped it over Sunoo's smaller frame, ensuring he was covered and comfortable. The cold air seemed to pierce through the night and Heeseung instinctively tried to shield Sunoo from it as much as possible.
