HELLBOUND {Sequel}

Forty

__Tails had taken a nap in his sleeping bag on the living room floor. He finally got his phone charger and began charging his phone. Last he checked before he fell asleep, Scourge had laid down on the couch while playing around with his phone while T-Pup slept with Tails. Tails must have been sleeping for hours. When he woke up he checked his phone and saw it was already late in the afternoon. He didn't remember what time he fell asleep at. He then saw that his phone was filled with text messages from all his friends. He didn't want to bother reading them, though, so he cleared his notification bar and turned his phone back off.
__Scourge had turned over and started poking Tails's ear. "Hey. How you feelin'?"
__Tails's ear had been twitching uncomfortably until Scourge pulled his finger away. "Better, I guess. My headache's gone."
__Scourge had carefully slid down next to Tails after the fox sat up. "Hungry?"
__Tails shook his head. "Nah, I'm good."
__Scourge nodded slowly. "I feel ya." He pulled out his phone to check something. After reading a text message he put it away. "The others will be back soon."
__Tails groaned as he hid his face in his knees. He didn't want to see anyone else today. He was still feeling overwhelmed. He looked at Scourge. He wanted to tell him about his argument with Cosmo earlier, but for some reason he couldn't muster up the will to tell him. "Do you think Sonic's mad?"
__Scourge started scratching his cheek nervously. "Definitely, but I don't think he's mad at you."
__"Who the fuck else would he be mad at?" Tails growled.
__Scourge stayed quiet. He just stared at Tails with this blank expression. He then looked down when T-Pup came over and sat in his lap. He showed a little smile as he started petting the robot dog.
__Tails's phone started vibrating. He picked it up and unplugged it before checking who was calling him. It had been Knuckles. Tails almost answered him before deciding against it. He just let his phone ring as he set it on the coffee table on top of his black hoodie. He didn't want to talk to anyone else either. He hadn't felt this depressed in a long time. He felt like he could just die right now, and he'd be fine with that.
__After one hour, Fiona and the others walked right inside. They all looked tired and nervous. Fiona had looked over at Tails, who had laid back down in his sleeping bag, and walked over to him. She knelt down beside him and poked his nose. "You haven't been answering anyone today."
__"'Course not," Tails grumbled. "My day off. No work. Just sleep."
__Fiona pulled her hand back and crossed her arms. She tilted her head and stared down at him in confusion. "Do you want to know what happened today then?"
__"No," Tails groaned. "I'll find out tomorrow. Just want sleep."
__Fiona had grunted as she stood up and started stretching. "Well, you boys want to eat?"
__Scourge, who was laying on the couch, had sat up immediately. "I could eat."
__But Tails turned over to face the couch and covered himself with his blanket. "Not hungry."
__Everyone started leaving the living room. Tails could feel T-Pup trying to crawl it's way under his blanket to lay against his back. He felt something else sit on top of him. It must have been Cheese. The Chao had laid on his stomach across Tails's arm and apparently started to doze off.
__"Tails?"
__Tails felt sick hearing Cream's voice. This was the first time she tried talking to him after their conversation last night. He had hoped that Cream would just keep ignoring him. He wasn't ready to face her, especially not today. "What?"
__Cream was talking quietly. "I'm sorry."
__Tails had to stop himself from growling. That apology pissed him off, but he was done being mad today. "Don't. Just don't."
__"But I am," Cream insisted. She sighed. "It might have been better if I hadn't said anything yesterday."
__"I said don't," Tails lightly retorted. "You're the one who should be mad at me. Don't offer me your pity."
__"How could I be mad at you?" Cream asked softly. She had gently placed her hand on Tails's shoulder. "You said your truth. It's not my place to try and change your mind. As long as you're happy with it."
__That just broke Tails's heart. He was glad he had his blanket covering him so she couldn't see how tired and upset he was. He thought about what Cosmo said this morning, word for word. Both of these girls wanted him to be happy with the other. He was so confused. He wanted so badly for Cosmo to be back in his life, but he had fallen for Cream as well. If he could have it his way he would have both of them, but this wasn't a fictional world where you could have everyone fawn over you with no consequence. His morals wouldn't allow it. He couldn't bear to let go of Cosmo, yet he didn't want to let go of Cream either. He had acted too recklessly. He needed to comprehend everything properly.
__"I... need some time to think," Tails muttered.
__Cream's hand slid off. "Okay, but just know that I'll always be here no matter what, even if we were no longer friends." She then got up to walk away.
__Tails didn't eat a single thing for the rest of the day.
