Warnings: Angst, Argument
Pronouns- Francis- (he/him), (M/N)- (he/him)
Gifts- None
Prompt: Francis focuses more on his job as a high member of a company than (M/N)
(M/N)'s POV:
I woke up again on an empty bed, the sheets where Francis slept, kicked to the side. Slowly, due to the tiredness, I sat up and leaned over to the bedside table to grab my phone, that had been charging all night. Instead of touching the plastic of the phone case I touched a yellow post-it note.
'I'll be back late tonight. No need for dinner. Love- Francis'
I sighed and picked myself up out of bed and crumpled up the note, tossing it into the nearest trashcan, the bathroom one. I stopped in front of the mirror and I gripped the edge of the counter, knuckles whitening.
"....Am I not good enough?" A small seed of self doubt sprouted running through my body, making me itchy.
My heart hurt at the thought. He used to be so sweet to me. He used to put me first. Now I just feel like I'm another obstacle in his life.
"Why do I even bother? He probably wouldn't notice if I disappeared." I muttered and suddenly a light bulb went off.
A bar.
To be honest, this was kind of a bitch move, but he had it coming. It's a way to see if he really cares.

That night or early morning, at 3am I arrived home, drunk as hell, barely able to walk.
I kicked off my shoes, knowing he was home. As I stumbled, I noticed a light on in the living room.
"To the light!" I chuckle to myself, tripping over the carpet.
"Hello?" I slurred, hanging on to the frame.
"Where were you?" Francis's voice startled me. Suddenly I felt sober.
"Out!" I smiled fakely, gaining composure.
"Drinking. Obviously." He scoffed, annoyed.
"Okay so what? I'm surprised you even noticed I wasn't home for fucks sake." I laughed, pissed off.
"What's that supposed to mean, (M/N)?" He stood up, walking up to me.
"You're never home! I never see you anymore, so I just assumed you forgot about me!"
"Wow. That's not true." He crossed his arms.
"When's the last time we've had sex, been on a date, or even have dinner?! At home?!" My eyes swelled with tears.
He began to speak and then stopped.
"Yeah, exactly! Am I not enough for you?! All you care about is money!"
"(M/N), I work so we can have everything we have!" He yelled back, and I finally broke and started to sob.
"Is all this worth not having me? Because I feel like I'm just another obstacle!" I choked on my sobs.
"What do you mean, losing you?" His voice went quiet.
"I think you know." I spit. "It hurts because I love you so fucking much."
"Hey no! I love you too. I just need my job for the money, (M/N)." He panicked.
"That's the problem. Me or money." I grimaced.
"I uh..." He didn't answer.
"Fuck you Francis. This is ridiculous." My hands fiddled with the wedding ring, and I shimmied it off my ring finger and threw it at him.
"No. (M/N) please, I love you. Don't" He started to cry, catching the gorgeous ring in his hands, shaking.
"I love you, too, but I can't do this to myself. I feel like I'm the only one trying to keep our relationship alive. I'd always ask to do stuff and you always had work. It's not fair to me."
"(M/N), I... please.."
"Francis, you make me feel invisible, like I'm not enough..."
"I need you, (M/N). I can't lose you. I'll drop some hours, and dedicate time to you. Anything! Just please for the love of God, don't leave me!" He begged, grabbing my hands, squeezing them as he cried with me.
"Why should I believe you? You've said this before and you never follow through."
"I know and I'm sorry. I'll be better for you. I love you more than money. Believe me! Please stay..." He cried out.
"Francis..." I whimpered.
"Please, (M/N)...." He pleaded desperately, kissing my knuckles.
"...."
"Say something please."
"Fine, this is your last chance, Francis. I don't wanna be left in the dark anymore." I sighed, letting go of his hands, wiping my own tears.
"Oh thank god. Can I hug you?" His eyes met mine, watery.
I only nodded, still trying to process my decision. His arms wrapped around me tightly as he sniffled into my shoulder. He kissed my neck once apologetically.
"I'll never do this to you again, honey." He whispered, slipping the ring back onto my finger.
I smiled weakly.
"I swear. I love you so much."
"I love you, too."
