Kai and Zane walked along the wide sidewalk side by side quietly as they watched the world around them. The small drizzle of rain that fell from the sky, the bright reflections of headlights on the wet, black road, and the shiny, neon signs that hung from almost every building they passed.
Ninjago City.
"I'm glad we didn't make any bets on Lloyd, I might've lost some money after tonight..." Zane laughed softly, trying to lighten the mood
Kai gave a quiet, breathy chuckle before returning to his silence.
The two continued their quiet walk down the road, glancing at any and everything except for each other.
"Can you believe it?" Asked Kai finally
Zane watched as his lover stared into the bright lights of the city before facing his front again
"No. I cannot." The nindroid answered
The soft sound of the rain connecting with the concrete drowned out any room for conversation between the two, but then again, conversation wasn't necessary between them. Zane knew Kai. Zane knew Kai like the back of his hand, like his own innards and circuits. He already knew why Kai was so upset.
"Kai." Zane started, "Do you think that...they're serious?"
"Hell no. And even they were I wouldn't give a damn 'cause it's not fucking happening." Kai answered quickly
"I see..." Zane breathed out
"Yeah, it seems like everybody "sees" except Lloyd." Kai huffed with sarcasm. "I just-" The brunette began once more, "Does he not know how this looks? We've been here before. We all watched him come here before, and it ended bad. It ended fucking terrible. Like- he doesn't even understand how easy it would be for that same kind of disaster to happen again, and it irritates me because he acts like...like he doesn't know anything! And I'm not...I'm not even...I knew something was wrong, I knew it. I've been feeling weird for so long and I knew that something wasn't fucking right and nobody listened. How long...? How long have we been sitting there just listening to him lie to us?"
Zane wanted to hear Kai out, he really did. But somewhere along the line, he decided he had listened to enough Lloyd slander for one night.
"Love-"
"No! No! None of that!" Kai yelled with rage, turning to face a now shocked Zane
"Oh...forgive me..." Zane mumbled as he looked downward to avoid anymore eye contact.
Kai's features softened completely before they were buried into his hands with a deep sigh
"No. I'm-...I'm sorry. I'm just...mad. But I'm not mad at you...I'm sorry." Kai spoke with his head still in his hands
Kai stood there like that for a small period of time before being pulled into a hard, warm hug. As his head hit the smooth material with a soft "clunk", he heard the voice of his lover speaking gently to him.
"You don't have to be scared." The nindroid whispered calmly
"...But I am..." Replied the man, holding his partner even tighter. "I'm terrified..."
Running.
Lloyd ran and ran with no exact destination in mind. He just wanted to forget. He wanted to forget everything that just happened. Morro, Zane, Kai, all of it.
The blonde ran through the city as fast as he could, bumping into people and tripping a couple times during his journey. Lloyd eventually stopped on the sidewalk, bending down slightly to catch his breath. He just wanted to be gone, but he didn't know where to go. Lloyd looked up from the gray cement with watery eyes before noticing a familiar building across the street.
