Acrux wasn't in the house when she came back. She relished the silence and thanked the Gods. She did not want the interrogation that he would have certainly conducted if he had been here. Plopping on the couch. Head tilted back, she thought of what she had seen today.
One body in the square, another in that...place; four bodies of what we know. All are noble. So Samuel had something against them, what did they do to him?
Her thought process was caught off suddenly as Acrux stomped in.
"Where were you?" He asked curtly.
"None of your concern."
Slamming his hand on the desk, "Why are you so unserious? You do realize the faster you do this, the faster you get to your precious Caelum. The balance is at risk."
"Afraid your beloved king will behead you if you fail." She said not turning to look at him.
"Get your shit together, I gave you a pass yesterday. Do not push it." He walked away.
Raising her brows, "Who the fuck does he think he is," she thought out loud.
Azalea stood up and joined a furious Acrux on the balcony. They both gazed at the night sky. Breaking the silence she said, "Another noble is dead."
"I know, and another one had been missing for a few days, you would know that if you were present." he replied sourly.
Azalea had a hinting suspicion; she knew where the missing noble was, but until she was absolutely certain, she would say nothing about that, nor anything about Samael. Drifting back to that thought, she was once again reminded of her task. Her stomach lurched at the thought of killing her friend, especially after finding him after years.
You're dead anyway. There's no point in getting to know him. Even if you kill him, you won't worry about it once you're in Caelum. You can end his life, as he is no longer the person you once knew. He's a murder. Her inner self argued.
"So was I." she thought, mind quiet once more.
"See you in the morning." Acrux said, melting in the shadows.
Azalea stood there for a moment before going to her bedroom. Laying on her bed, she itched her tattoo as she drifted off to sleep.
"Azalea Thorne." The god of death spoke out from the darkness. "What is taking so long? You have three more days before I bring you back to Gehenna. I don't need to remind you of the severity of your punishment if you fail. Pausing, "Don't give in to selfish desires and fantasies, or you'll put everyone in danger."
Gasping, she woke up cold sweat soaked her neck. Staring at her tattoo she thought, can he see my thoughts with this and enter my dreams? Her body froze with that. If he knows about Samael, then I have no choice but to kill him.
Splashing her face with water she tried to regain her composure, the sun had not risen yet, so she got dressed, arming herself, as she made her decision.
