I grab my bags and start packing random things. My phone, headphones, charger, snacks, water, etc. I run downstairs and tell my mom the news, well not the truth but news. "I got accept to an internship at Stark Institute!" I say with a smile on my face. My mom looks at me, puzzled, "I didn't know you applied to this. But congratulations I guess!" She looks at me and smiles. "Yeah it was a last minute decision and I guess it just slipped my mind with all my school work." I hug her and explain that I was asked to come in for an orientation. I leave and put on my headphones.
I open Spotify and a roll through my music, eventually landing on Left Hand Free by alt-j.
I pump myself up by bouncing up and down, running in place, and stretch my legs and arms. Let's do this. I start running and aim my first web, my other hand follows suit. I get into a rhythm with my music.
Let's see if I can do this all with one hand. I take out my phone from my pocket to switch the song. I'm able to somehow know when to use my free hand to shoot my next web. Must have to do with these heightened senses.
I put on Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High by the Arctic Monkeys; love their music. I put my phone away and keep swinging while doing some flips. I decide to spice things up one more time, I make a catapult for myself by using both of my hands to web to different sides of a building and launch myself into the air. I scream out of excitement and exhilaration. I do a flip, thinking about how much my life has changed in the passed few days.
After a while, I make it to the tower. Tony never said where to come in. I'll go thought the front door to rub it in the receptionist face again. I land in front of the building, people are staring, we'll probably because a teenager just dropped out of the sky, whatever. I put my hood over my head just in case. I open the door to be greeted by the same receptionist.
I walk over to the desk. "This time I AM supposed to see him." I emphasis the "I am" to get my point across. "Well what's your name kid." they respond in disbelief, seemingly just playing along with me. "y/n" I respond with a smug smile on my face. "I don't see it in the system, nice try kid. As I said before-" right before she could finish, Tony appears right next to her. "Ahh there you are y/n, thought you were going to come in the way you did last time." He finished, with a grin on his face. "I decided to be more civil this time." I give the receptionist a side eye. I receive the same look, but also still confused as to how I got in last time.
Tony guides me past the desk into the hallway that leads to the elevators. Before I could completely past their desk, I mouthed to them, "This won't be the last time you see me." They scoff and go back to whatever they were doing. I smile to myself and continue to walk towards elevator.
I can barely hold my excitement, and nervousness, as I saw the numbers on the elevator rise. Tony could notice this and gave me a pat on my back. "Kid, you're gonna be a hit don't worry." I smile at him, appreciating the words of comfort. We both go back to our own worlds.
Ding
I looks up, look at Tony, he smiles at me. "We are here." My heart starts racing. I'm just a kid, they can't possibly think I'll be any good. The door opens to reveal another, smaller, hallway. Tony leads the way as we make it to the door. My head is rushing with thoughts of not being good enough, but there's hope because Tony and the team actually agreed to this.
Tony enters a code to the keypad on the side of the door. It glows green, he opens the door. I'm greeted with the faces of people I've only seen on my TV. It feels like almost everyone was here waiting for my arrival like a welcome party. This is kinda weird, but sweet in a way.
"Guys," Tony says, breaking the silence, "this is our newest, and youngest, Avenger y/n."
That's how it all started. Throughout the next year I would train with them. Bucky, Natasha, and Steve helped me with physical combat. Tony helped to create a suit just for me. Bruce, Tony and I found out more about my powers that I never knew about. I was accepted by them. They took me in as their own, and i appreciated it.
Remember that green ooze? So, I was right about it being a toxic substance, but it has side effects on humans when I attack them. We found out depending on how much energy I use, it can do a multitude of things to people. For example, I could paralyze people, make them faint, throw up, and more.
After about a year, I was sent on my first mission, patrol. It was simple but a step in the direction towards something bigger. And would something bigger come our way.
