The sun has sunk below the blue tinged mountains of Laranyu when we hear it: the sound of fan planes zooming low over the river, equipped with spotlights and cannons. Luckily, we don't have a fire going, so unless they fly low over our camp, there's no way they'll be able to see us.
Earlier, we had decided that it wouldn't be smart to keep moving this late into the day. There would be Yiga Clan and monsters looking for us, especially now that they knew we were in the area, not to mention the Stal monsters that would pop out the ground at night without warning. If we were on the move, we would be easier to spot, and we would be more vulnerable if we were seen.
When Sidon told us that the domain had been taken, Link had immediately sprung into action, making plans and helping Yunobo clear out rocks from the entrance of a small cave nearby, where we could stay the night. We had moved the small amount of stuff we had with us into the divot in the cliff side, and Link and Yunobo had gone off to gather logs to build some defenses outside, while Riju and I stayed behind to talk with Sidon.
"We- we had just gotten to the Domain, and we were all tired out- the swim is pretty difficult this time of year," he had said, wincing as Yona applied some banana leaves as a makeshift bandage to his wound, "we swam up one of the waterfalls and into the city, and everything seemed normal, just fine. Then we noticed that everyone was gone."
"Gone?" I had asked, "not like..."
"No," he had revised, shaking his head, "not dead- just, everyone had disappeared. There was no one there."
"It felt like something out of a horror movie," Yona had said, shivering in the late July warmth of evening.
She had watched some old classics on Link's Sheikah slate before it broke last summer (Purah was now working on the replacement), and still sometimes had nightmares about them, mature and motherly as she was.
"The only thing that was there was a single banana in the center of the Domain, in front of the statue," said Sidon.
"Mipha's statue?" I asked, trying to visualize what he was talking about, not having been to Zora's Domain for a long time.
"No, we moved her statue to the top of Ploymus mountain, on Shatterback Point, where the natural spring is," Yona said gently, "the one in the Domain is now of Sidon and Link."
"Yes, the statue of Link and I. Moving on," said Sidon, " I obviously don't eat bananas, and neither do any of the other Zora; we eat fish, and crab, but there was a banana in the middle of the Domain. It was the only thing left in the whole place! I thought maybe a traveler had left it, or something, so I picked it up and then- they just popped out of nowhere." he had buried his face in his hands, sighing.
"I should've known. As soon as I saw the Domain was empty, I should have known, but I was too proud to admit it to myself. I thought, the Zora would never fall to some Yiga clan members," he had said, Riju rolling her eyes, "and then I fell to some stupid Yiga clan members! The irony!" He looked truly hurt, as if the universe had it out specifically for him.
"They surrounded us, and one of them shot Sidon in the arm before we could jump back into the river," Yona had said softly, glancing at her fiance, "we managed to swim back to the shore and find the path; he couldn't swim without his shoulder. We had to walk all the way back here."
We sat in silence in the fading daylight, watching Link and Yunobo carry logs and pointed sticks towards the cave, and the kids playing in the grass, ignorant of what had just happened, and very much full of bliss.
"We'll get them," growled Riju in a low voice, breaking the silence, "they are not going to win."
