Chapter 18

"What do you mean he is here?" I questioned with a harsher tone than I expected.

Derek and Nakota, who came to my bedroom door bright and early this Monday morning at 7 O'clock sharp, looked frightened at my croaky voice.

"We mean he's here?" Nakota said oblivious to my death glares. As much as I had grown accustomed to Nakota's smart remarks this past weekend of getting to know him and Derek's group of friends, it was too early in the morning to be dealing with his shenanigans.

What on earth would Dylan be doing at the pack mansion this early? What would he be doing here at all?

"He said if you weren't down for school in 15 minutes he was going to come in after you." Derek said looking genuinely worried. I glanced at Nakota and he shrugged. "The guy did look pretty serious." I groaned in annoyance.

I closed the door and hurriedly went to the bathroom. Luckily, Zane had been pulled into an emergency meeting this morning and judging by the one he had yesterday, I would be in the last period of the day before he got out. He still never told me of what it was he was doing and every time I pressed the matter he would end up distracting me or not even acknowledge that I had asked him anything.

He would be mad that I would be gone by the time he got back, but I could understand Dylan's urgency to get me back to school. I had already missed a whole week, and it was due time for me to go.

I froze as I was sliding on my black skinny jeans. I had home room with Claire. That was something that I tried so very hard to not think about while I was in my escape week. I quickly tied on my black converse and tried my best to pick out a decent enough shirt. I settled with a dark blue sweater due to the fading old love bites and the deep purple new ones Zane had placed on my collar bone and neck. Almost forgetting where my book bag was, I found it in the back of my walk in closet and I couldn't help but cringe at its weight. Spraying a squirt of perfume on myself, I jumped down the stairs in a frantic yet angry spaz.

How dare he come here and just demand me to go with him, who does he thin-

My thoughts were rudely interrupted as I swung open the massive doors to see Dylan walking up the steps. His truck was parked just a few yards away and I couldn't help but freeze at his presence. I had gone the longest time without seeing my older brother just now. A whole week without seeing my best friend, without seeing the one person I had gone months running for my life with.

A lump formed in my throat as his eyes met mine. He played with his hands nervously as he started to walk back to his truck. I followed slowly. Not talking was scary for us, because eventually it would all come bursting out.

Once in the car, Dylan sped out of the long driveway.

"Why haven't you been in school?" He sounded angry but not as angry as I expected him to be when he finally broke the silence.

We had a good 25 minutes before we arrived at school and even though I planned to ignore him, I found it harder and harder with each passing second.

"I've had a lot going on." I finally answered.

I heard him scoff. "More like he's been holing you up there, not letting you see your family."

I rolled my eyes. I knew this was coming, why was I surprised? "You know that's not true, Dylan. You're just mad that I'm gone."

Dylan was speeding and he only ever did that when he was mad, it didn't help that he had Three Days Grace's Just Like You blaring in the cab of his truck. "Of course I am!" He bellowed louder than the music.
