Vivian should've let it go.
Only he couldn't.
After Eva left his cabin, he sipped his coffee but it wasn't running down his throat, instead, he was feeling an excessive amount of guilt. He couldn't quite comprehend what was happening. He shouldn't have been feeling guilty. But he recognised the feeling when it surfaced in his heart.
He knew he had hurt her. But it was unintentional. It wasn't his motive to hurt her. At least now, at this point in his plan. He had wanted to win her trust, he had wanted to win her heart, and he had planned that he would say yes to Ezra's proposal then and there.
But.
There was a but, wasn't it?
Atlas had stared at her like he was gonna eat her up. And only that had been enough to wreck his nerves. He shouldn't have let that affect his plan. It was wrong on his part. But at that moment, he did what he wanted to. Anger guided him and it was a drastic step that he took. He knew that he would have to think of something to make up for it.
What could he do to make her happy again?
He tallied his options. Either he could say that he had managed to convince the majority to let her work on the project or he could show sympathy towards her and tell her how much he supported her talent. Out of the two options, the first one seemed like a reasonable one. He began to make preparations, sending mail to the entire design department to let Eva work on the project. After a while, his mailbox clicked with the onslaught of mail from his team. And all of them had agreed. Thank God!
Obstacle removed.
He got up from his seat, being aware of the time. He had to meet Vera to help her find an apartment. On his way outside, he noticed Ezra and Eva talking to each other by the recreation room. Ezra was saying something really serious while Eva had her eyes soaked with tears.
Why the hell was she crying?
He refrained from the urge to go to her and ask her. He had plans to shatter her, to make her cry. This was just the start. Why was he so damn restless? She would have to cry more in the future. Because of him. Shrugging off his shoulders, he walked out of his office building, preparing his heart to face Vera.
She made him nervous, always did. She was such a beauty, her eyes the colour of melted honey, her lips shaped like the cupid's bow. In his heart of hearts, Vera Gonzales intimidated him. She had always been very difficult to speak to, she had always been very reserved and she only talked with her girlfriends, which included Eva.
The meeting was supposed to happen in La View Cafe. It was a high end sky cafe located at the terrace of the topmost building in New York: Atmosphere. He didn't like the place much but she had texted him the venue so, he had no choice. He entered the elevator to reach the terrace which was at the ninetieth floor. Once he was there, he saw her waiting on a corner table, typing something on her phone.
The phone cover she had seemed like gold. Real gold. Though it wasn't such a fussy matter, he still wondered how she could afford that. Not that she couldn't, but when he knew her in college, her father wasn't affluent and her family was middle-class. And moreover, Paul Descartes had said that she had moved here recently so maybe she didn't have any job yet.
So, how?
That wasn't the right question at this point. The right question was, what would he say to her?
Oh, God, she looked so damn amazing!
She was wearing this little black dress that barely covered her thighs, had a low neck that showed too much of her skin. Her hair was styled into a braid. And her lips? Painted with a classic shade of red lipstick. Gosh, she looked divine.
