Vivian was shocked at the reaction of his family when he told them that Eva wasn't coming to the vacation. It was Jean who had squealed with such loud annoyance that he squirmed.

"What do you mean she's not coming?" Jean maintained her calm.

"Her brother is sick, so she's worried. He has weekly doctor appointments and therapy. So--"

Jean, who was earlier red with irritation, seemed to cool off fast. "Oh--oh, okay."

"That's fine, then. What can be done..." Richard supported the matter.

Faith and Alex seemed to agree.

Somewhere, Vivian felt distressed. He had been bewildered at his family's sudden acceptance that Eva wasn't joining them; it was as if he had wanted his family to not accept the situation and propose a solution.

"You guys won't do anything?" He blurted out, unconscious of his own thoughts.

"Can we do anything, really?" Faith asked nimbly, shaking her head. "Her brother's sick."

"Uhm, yeah."

Everyone was silent. Alex's living room was bright and now it seemed dull and lifeless. At least to him. He didn't know why he was acting so dramatically.

He realized in his secret heart of hearts that he really wanted Eva to go with him. To go with them. He had learned today that Eva's little brother had GB syndrome. They had no idea there was any kind of syndrome like that. He had to Google it, by the way. And once he had researched about it, he knew that it was a very complex syndrome. Though she had convinced him that it was mild, he had gotten to know that it required intensive care and daily physiotherapy.

Leaving her brother away with no one trustworthy was difficult. Hiring a trustworthy person or a medical professional needed money. Eva didn't seem to have that kind of money which made him all the more restless and irritable.

Could he by any chance get her a trustworthy helper?

He had no idea what to do.

Then, just like hope lighting up the dark, Alex cleared his throat. "So, Eva needs a trustworthy staff to look after her brother who would give him his medicines on time, take him to his checkup and weekly physiotherapy sessions, right?"

"Yes," Jean nodded way before he could.

"Then he can stay here...with Marie. When we're away, she stays here to take care of the house so she'll take care of everything!" Alex winked, flexing his brain.

Life seemed to come back. At least to him. He breathed a sigh of relief and couldn't help but smile.

"Yeah, yeah, it's possible." Richard clasped his hands together, grinning at Jean who was happy beyond measures knowing that her dream trip was finally going to be complete.

Vivian had no idea why his family was so happy. Heck, he had no idea why he was so happy. His family had known Eva just for a few days. They had interacted with her for maybe a few hours, but everyone was so affected by her.

Leave everyone. He was so damn affected by her!

"So, all set, then! Viv, go back home, call Eva and tell her the good news! And if she's still hesitant, I can have her call Marie.... everybody loves Marie!" Faith giggled, winking at the beautiful old woman who had heard all the conversations from the kitchen.

Somehow hearing that he could go back home, call her and tell her that she was going with them was making him excited. It was true that Marie was the most trustworthy of their staff. She wasn't only a staff member to them. She was their nanny when they were only infants, and she had been with them since their childhood. She loved them like her own sons.
