~Halo~
Contrary to what Ava believed, Halo really liked working at the bar. Not that they could actually do any of the assigned tasks, but even just watching through the Bearer’s eyes was entertainment enough.
Halo had never been part of a human that was employed in a ‘normal’ job, usually the Bearer’s only ever trained and battled for the entire partnership. Witnessing the non-demon killing side of the world was a fascinating experience, besides that their current Bearer had a propensity for chaos in all aspects of her life and Halo had discovered how humorous it could be teasing Ava for it.
“You’re spilling it again…”
“Ah fuck! Why didn’t you tell me sooner?” Ava grumbled back, quickly letting go of the beer tap and placing the overfilled pint on the bar in front of a disgruntled looking customer.
“That’s the 5th time in the last half hour…I would’ve thought you had learned your lesson by now.”
The young woman muttered grumpily under her breath.
“Something on your mind?” Halo wouldn’t usually probe into the Bearer’s business, but Ava seemed to need all the help she could get.
Ava was quiet for a moment. Sharing her head meant Halo had a front row seat to the swirl of thoughts spinning through the Bearer’s mind, but they had learnt long ago not to try to understand the vortex of consciousness. It was too easy to get lost in it, therefore Halo waited for the young woman to formulate a single thought and reach out to them.
“I'm just nervous for tonight.”
“For your celebratory dinner? But why? You eat all the time at that establishment.”
“It’s not that…I just haven’t taken Bea out on a proper date yet and I want it to be amazing.”
“I’m confused, were all the other times you have both eaten there together not dates?”
Halo found human relationships very perplexing, or maybe it was only Ava’s relationships that were strange. They hadn’t had much experience with this sought of thing, most Warrior nuns were only dedicated solely to the mission, although there had been a handful with romantic inclinations throughout the years.
“They were…different, more casual, we both just decided to go there and eat. This time we are officially girlfriends, and I asked her out, and I did all the bookings and stuff…I just want to make sure she has the best time.” Despite Ava speaking to Halo in her head, the relic could still pick up the slightly panicked tone to the Bearer’s thoughts.
“I’m sure she will, Ava. Beatrice loves spending time with us.” Halo liked the sister warrior, she was an excellent fighter, intelligent and seemed to temper some of Ava’s impulsiveness.
Ava sighed out loud, “I hope so.”~
Halo was trying very hard to give Ava some privacy and completely ignore the unfolding ‘situation’ occurring between the Bearer and Beatrice. They seemed to be intimate with each other very regularly, but then again Halo hadn’t been part of such an unusual Warrior nun before.
While Halo waited patiently for the mating ritual to run its course, they kept tabs on Ava’s level of control of the massive well of power she had a direct line to. With every increase in heart rate or ragged breath, Halo could feel the tight grip the Bearer maintained over the deep well of power weaken slightly. Ava had improved in leaps and bounds over the last few months but still had the odd slip up, Halo doubted anyone would be particularly happy if the younger woman blew a hole in the bed.
As the Warrior nun reached the height of pleasure, Halo carefully directed the small leak of power into glowing heat rather than a pure blast of energy, relieved when Ava regained control once again. The regular interactions were far easier to deal with than emotionally charged sex after a dry spell that's for sure, although Halo did enjoy bringing up the perfectly circular hole Ava had blasted through the wall of the bedroom.
