~Ava~

Ava breathed in, filling her lungs with as much air as she possibly could before releasing it all in a slow, relaxing exhale. The Halo bearer smiled to herself feeling warm and content as she lay soaking up the summer sun, hat slapped down over her eyes, on the pebbled shores of the lake.

A shadow cast over her, spoiling her peaceful moment, "Ava, we are supposed to be swimming laps…"

"But Beeeeaaaaa…it's too hot to train."

Her girlfriend let out a deep, 'Lord give me patience', sigh, "Yes, that's why we are swimming instead of sparing."

Ava could feel cold drops of the water from the lake dripping onto her bare shins. Each droplet freezing compared to her sun warmed skin.

"Ugh, you're getting me wet." The Halo bearer whined, trying to pull her legs away from the splash zone.

Abruptly the shadow and drips disappeared, Ava frowned looking up into the underside of her hat, getting rid of Bea wasn't normally that easy. Maybe the sister warrior had gone back to continue training?

Ava’s question was quickly answered as a shockingly cold, damp body covered her own. She shrieked, squirming underneath her girlfriend trying to get free.

"Bea, you're fucking freezing! Get off, get off!" The sister warrior just giggled in reply, pinning her down effortlessly.

Eventually Ava gave in, falling still and panting from the exertion, she was just as wet as the taller woman now, "You suck." She pouted.

Bea lifted the hat off her head, Ava squinted in the blinding sunlight. Unable to see anything while her vision adjusted. She could feel the other woman’s breath ghosting across her face.

"You love it…" Came a soft whisper, followed by the brush of pillowy lips on her own.

Ava hummed, chasing the contact when the sister warrior drew back slightly. Bea smiled into the kiss and deepened it, running her tongue along the younger woman's bottom lip, requesting entrance. Ava opened her mouth as she dragged her hands up Bea's sides, before settling on the sister warrior's waist, feeling the lean muscle flex under her fingers.

Bea broke away, looking down at her like she was the most perfect thing in the world. Cupping Ava's cheeks with her hands, the taller woman caressed the Halo bearer’s delicate skin.

"I love you, Ava."

"Ditto." She murmured impatiently, straining upwards to try and capture Bea's lips once again.

Her girlfriend grinned down at her, staying just out of reach, chuckling softly when Ava grumbled.

"You know this isn't real, right?" Bea whispered, her smile fading.

What?

Thick, suffocating fear and panic slammed into Ava at the words, her breath catching in her throat. A vague burning starting between her shoulder blades.
