Dylan read, "'Once again, the Red Dragon escaped the colonists. Nathaniel Moore rallied the people, ordered a cage of iron built. Father Abram blessed the waters of the lakes and rivers all around so it would all be holy water. The colonists wouldn't be thwarted this time.
"'When the iron chain was lashed around her, she was dragged to the cage and dunked into the holy lake, Heavenly Pond, repeatedly. She burned and screamed. Iron weights were used to sink her to the bottom of the lake. For days, the pond bubbled and churned. A great explosion shot water for miles and the cage was flung into a field.
"'The iron bars were bent and contorted. Bits of the Red Dragon's clothes clung to the door.
"'The people rejoiced, finally free of the cursed witch, but Nathaniel Moore warned them not to celebrate too soon. Father Abram blessed the water a second time and the people returned to fishing in the pond.
"'But the curse of the Red Dragon lingered. Fish died. People became ill. The colonists bled from their eyes. Any who touched the water directly burned with the fire of Hell. Heavenly Pond was abandoned and the colonists began to fish from Nathaniel's Lake.
"'Nathaniel Moore insisted the Red Dragon was still there. He said that even the whores from the depths of Hell left a body when the sludge of the demon core burned away. He raved at anyone who walked by, but the other colonists cast him aside and enjoyed the Pure and Clean land.
"'As punishment to the Pure and Clean people, Nathaniel Moore went mad and flung himself off of a cliff. No more would the ignorant people be protected by his wisdom.'"
"Calling it wisdom," Brantley said. "That's rich."
