Saw something, saying something. Sigh I'm unsanely tired of having so much of what I have enjoyed, ruined because I finally spotted bad juju in the media.

As many of y'all know, I'm a gamer. RPGs are a staple of many gamer libraries. You get to play the role of a protagonist, and 'live' the game in your own ways. Baldur's Gate, is a well know franchise, both in pen & paper DnD, and video games. BG3 has been long anticipated, and as expected, there is a EULA (end user license agreement), but this one is worse than usual.

In section 5 of the EULA, listed as "Additional obligations in Eldritch law," there's a provision that players have agreed to, stating that they will "refrain from striking a deal with another creature of Fey, Infernal, or otherwise Eldritch origin." If players do not follow the terms of this agreement, due to being "unable to withstand the seductive melody whispered by their malevolent terms," it might be the end of their experience with Baldur's Gate 3, because the studio has "the right to sever all ties professional or social with the end user, and seek appropriate remedy from the Morninglord."

Ok, as a gamer and lore enthusiast, I was enchanted by this lovely, supposedly, tongue in cheek addition. *resigned sigh* BUT...what this article doesn't mention is an earlier clause setting the term for this agreement as a PACT. Which, technically, any legal document is a pact, mortgage means death pledge after all, but I get a bad feeling from this. I want to laugh and love the cleverness and humor added into a dry, tedious document, because this is a genius idea to make the experience more enjoyable. However, agreeing to something like this literally leaves you open to.... Wow, the potentials are almost endless when I look at them from a Sourceress' standpoint. For instance, if I got someone to agree to a PACT like this, I could at any time infuse that contract with manipulations that could do anything from make someone clumsy to make them sick, or worse. I'm gonna stop there, as I just intend to bring this into your attention, so that you may be aware. In case you are wondering, the game starts with you, the player character forcefully implanted with a psionic 'bug' by a Mind Flayer, so that it can take control of you or just feed off of you. Think of the bugs in Star Trek, the borg used something similar to brainwash folks.
