"My fellow Americans, by now you have surely heard... that the heart of our great nation was attacked," The President informed on a live broadcast for the entire country to see, even the entire world to see. "By someone many of you trusted with your security—and your hopes. Supergirl," he named with such disappointment. "She attacked in retaliation to the repeal of the Alien Amnesty Act. Ignoring our democracy, in favor of her own—alien brute form of justice. The American people have welcomed these aliens, they've repaid our hospitality with violence. But we are not weak, we are Americans. We are humans.
I am hereby enacting martial law for our protection. And Supergirl, if you are watching, make no mistake, this act of horrific terrorism will not go unanswered. You are now, public enemy number one."
At CatCo World Media, the reporters and employees watched this broadcast with a sinking, gaping feeling in their stomachs. They worked at a company that named Supergirl and supported her as National City's hero from the very beginning. Who knew that someone who only ever saved people could reveal her true colors as a terrorist..?
The DEO, specifically Director, Alex Danvers, and Haley, the Colonel, only felt denial. In no world would Supergirl ever commit such a terrible act. Why waste her time saving lives, gaining trust, when she had all the power she needed to do this from the beginning...? She tried to reason with the President and everyone voting against the repeal beforehand. If she had any hopes of stopping the repeal, or reversing what happened, this attack was the last thing she would do. And for some reason, Alex just had this gut feeling that it was absolutely impossible that Supergirl, no matter how mad she was, could fall to doing such terroristic things. Her heart was too pure. Alex just knew it.
And Kara, the one who wore the cape. She sat on her couch, still in her Supergirl suit, with her knees held against her chest and her eyes red from tears constantly rolling down as she watched the television in front of her. As she heard the horrific things some imposter had done... that everyone believed she had done. Not only was she crying for the lives lost at the White House, due to some exact lookalike of which she couldn't explain, but she was crying for the fact that now no one saw Supergirl as a symbol of hope anymore. They all saw her as some terrorist... Though it only caused more hurt, she stared at the TV as replays of this imposter attacking everyone in D.C. continued. Kara pulled out her phone and wiped away her tears then dialed a number.
"This is J'onn J'onzz, private investigator. Please leave a message and I'll get back to you as soon as I can," The automated voice recording was all she heard through the phone. If anyone could help her figure out how this lookalike exists and who she is, it would be J'onn, but he didn't answer. Then, Kara's focus on the unanswered phone was taken away when she heard the beeping of a watch. Her Supergirl watch. Someone was calling her with it...
The alien followed the location to L-Corp. She flew into the open door of the balcony to be confronted by Lena Luthor and Alex Danvers, her sister who still had her mind wiped clean of her identity. So, Alex could easily feel hatred towards Supergirl for what she saw because she doesn't know her as her sister... "Did you call me here to arrest me?" Supergirl asked in an unsurprised voice, slightly shaky because of what had happened. The two, Lena and Alex, noticed the redness in her eyes from tears and the shaken up voice. If Supergirl were anyone else in the city, she wouldn't believe that who she saw on TV wasn't Supergirl.
"We know you didn't do this," Lena looked Supergirl in the eyes. Supergirl must be in a terrible place right now, the entire world thinking she's a terrorist. Lena knows that hearing that someone still believes in Supergirl would make the hero feel much better.
"That you would never do something like this," Alex assured after Lena, knowing in her gut that she should defend Supergirl.
"We're on your side, Supergirl. We're going to find out the truth. Together," Lena nodded at the alien, causing a slight smile to form on Supergirl's face. After all, the two people who mattered most to her were standing before her on her side, trusting in her. Maybe not all hope was lost.
