It took a few hours, but the cab finally pulled up at the gates of the Avengers compound. The guard at the gate had stopped the car, as the driver was about to roll down his window, Evie turned and gave him the amount that was on the meter.
"Thanks" She offered, then opened the door and got out.
The guard looked at her, seeing who this was.
"Everything alright Agent Drake?" He wondered.
"Yeah. Just tired" She smiled.
He nodded.
"Want me to get a car for you?"
"Ill be fine. The walk will do me good" She explained.
The cab had turned and drove away, as the guard nervously smiled and opened the gate for her.
Evie walked up towards the building, feeling the ache in her feet, so she stopped to take her heels off. She looked over to the building, finding it was quiet.
It would be.
Most of the people who worked here, was currently out at Natashas birthday.
The image of Bucky kissing that blonde made her feel angry for a second. But the more she thought he deserved to be happy and move on. The more the tears gathered in her eyes.
That was all she wanted for him.
To be happy.
She preferred it if they were happy together.
But now realised, that was never going to happen.
Evie walked through the hall, heading towards her room, where she dumped her heels, before heading to the lounge area. It was odd knowing that nobody was in the building. The small amount of staff who werent lucky enough to be allowed to go, would be on the other side of the building, tracking whatever it was they would be tracking.
So it felt like the whole place was abandoned.
Without putting on any lights, Evie walked through and grabbed a tub of ice cream from the freezer, before heading over and curling up on one of the comfortable chairs. Looking out over the grass area that was currently behind them.
Tears silently fell from her eyes, dripping onto her cheeks.
She couldnt even be bothered to eat the ice cream, reaching over and placing the tub onto the small table beside her. As she then wrapped her arms around her legs, pulling them up to her chest, and lying her head onto her knees, while she silently sobbed.
A small noise from outside caught her attention, bringing her head up from her knees, she looked out the window, but saw nothing.
When there was a large explosion from the centre of the building.
It caused a wave of destruction.
Evie jumped up from the chair, as the shockwave rippled through the air, sending her backwards, crashing onto the floor, breaking the large glass table in the centre of the room. When she looked up, she watched the walls and the ceilings around her begin to crack and crumble.
She quickly scrambled to her feet, running for the door, out into the hall, finding there was debris everywhere. She had no idea what had been hit, but it had to be something big.
A large chunk of ceiling fell to the ground in front of her, narrowly missing her. Causing her to throw herself against the wall. She was panicked, and couldnt think straight, realising that her powers would be great right now, pushing her hands out in front of herself. The repulsion of her fireball would push it back a little, enough for her to get free.
