Bucky slowly turned over in the large bed, the light streaming in through a gap in the heavy curtains. As he reached out for Evie, he realised he was in bed by himself. He quickly sat up and looked around the room, finding he was utterly alone.
Once he was up, showered and dressed Bucky headed through to the lounge area, looking around, expecting to find he there. When he didn't, he automatically assumed that she had left him.
He felt hole in his chest tear open, about to rip him apart.
Bucky wasnt sure how much more he could take.
The room door opened, causing him to quickly get up from the sofa, finding Evie walking in, carrying a food bag and two cups of coffees.
She looked over, grinning at him, as she closed the door. But paused in the doorway, when she saw his face, as she realised that he had panicked.
Knowing he would have panicked because he had awoken alone.
"Hey" She smiled. "Everything alright?"
"Yeah" He tried to reply, without the hint of relief in his voice.
But even he could hear it, and he knew with her empath powers, she would feel it.
"You thought I left" She commented, setting the bag and cups down on the table.
Bucky opened his mouth to reply, to start denying it. Only nothing came out, and he glanced to the floor, feeling ashamed of himself for a moment.
"Sorry" He offered.
"I just thought you could do with some breakfast. Breakfast in the kitchen is over with. And I wasnt sure how long you were going to sleep for"
He was about to say something, when he looked around for the time, wondering how long he had slept for.
"Its Thursday Bucky" She laughed, sitting down beside him. "Thursday afternoon, almost evening"
He stared back at her, thinking that couldnt be right. He had slept for almost twenty hours.
"I must have tired you out" She laughed again.
"Must have" He agreed, laughing with her.
"You also must have needed it. You were pretty restless after our shower"
He sat there trying to grasp what he had been thinking about before going to sleep last night, after they had been together under the running water. And all that was coming back to him, was the fact they were now on the run from Shield. And he didnt want to be putting Evie through that kind of life. He had lived through that, and it was a nightmare.
"I had a look around" She then said, opening the bag of food and taking out what looked like a pastry.
"Around here?"
She glanced at him, raising her eyebrows, causing him to realise she had been up for a while. And had already been checking out the mansion they would be heading too at some point.
"You shouldnt have gone alone" He replied, reaching for the bag.
"I know" She chewed her food.
The silence between them was deafening. He knew she wanted to tell him what she found, and saw. But he didnt want to ask her.
"Arent you curious?" Evie asked.
Bucky shrugged his shoulders, like he wasnt bothered by the thought.
This caused Evie to chuckle, and playfully push his arm.
"Fine" He played along. "What did you find out?"
