You were sitting at the kitchen island, drowning yourself in work papers that were due last week as the leaves were slowly falling off the trees, one by one outside. You couldn't help but get distracted, watching the brown, red and orange colors covering the ground. You had just gotten a new job and because the person who you had stepped in for hadn't done their job great enough, you were the one sitting with the problem now.
You sighed as you buried your face in your hands, mumbling a few curse words under your breath. You took a deep inhale, smelling the burning cinnamon candle before feeling the warm air exiting your nose. A slight smile appeared on your lips, before you heard the door in the foyer open.
"I'm home!" A sweet voice called out making you smile like a teenager who was falling in love, even though you were in your 20's. As you heard your girlfriend enter the kitchen you turned around on the chair you were sitting on, giving her a soft smile as a welcome home.
"Hi my love" she said, as she lifted up the grocery bags in her hands. "Ready for a baking night?" She asked as she smiled hopefully, but the expression on your face let her down.
"I'm so sorry, I still have all this work left" you said, moving aside so she was able to see the big pile of papers in front of you.
She exhaled softly as a smile appeared on her lips. She took off her coat before walking over to you. "It's okay... I'll bake and then later we can enjoy it together alright?" She asked, her head right beside yours as a hopeful expression was on her face once again that you couldn't let down.
"Alright" you said with a soft smile, making her grin. She kissed your cheek before she walked back to the actual kitchen, starting off with whatever she came up with.
The longer you sat there working, the better it started to smell, your eyes closing as you took a deep breath to consume it fully. Lana turned her head, looking behind her to see you sitting there enjoying the smell which made her smile. You continued with your work, and when the time had hit 7.30pm exactly, you were finally done. You looked up to see how dark it was outside compared to earlier where you had sat and admired the leaves that now were nowhere to be found.
"I'm done" you said just as Lana pulled the tray of cookies out of the oven, her cheeks a bit red from the heat of the oven. She smiled at you sweetly making you blush before you closed your laptop and put away your work papers.
"Get in the living room" Lana said, looking back at you. "I'll be right there" she winked, before continuing her cookie project.
You did as she said so, waiting in anticipation for your girlfriend to enter the living room as well which she did a few minutes later. When you saw her and what she had brought with her you giggled, butterflies fluttering in your stomach. She was walking with the tray of cookies in one hand while balancing, candles, cups and tea bags in the other somehow. She had the biggest smile on her face as she reached you, placing down all of the stuff, before she lit the candles making it smell like cinnamon and pumpkin in the whole living room. She left you again for some water for the tea, before pouring both of you a cup of tea.
"Here you go my love" she said in the sweetest voice, showing how much she loved you. You smiled taking the cup which immediately warmed up your shivering hands.
"You're cold?" She asked when she noticed how relieved you got when the warm cup was placed in your hands and you nodded slightly. She immediately got a blanket before wrapping it around you, smiling at your wrapped up body.
You carefully sipped at your tea hoping you wouldn't burn your tongue even though you knew you always ended up doing so because you were too impatient. "This is so cozy" you said, inhaling the scent of cinnamon.
"Mhm" Lana replied, closing her eyes as she took a deep breath as well, her exhale long and complete.
"How was work?" You asked and she opened her eyes, wondering about it herself before answering. "Great. Didn't run late" she said before taking the tray of cookies from the table.
"Please try one" she said with a cheeky smile making you grin. "Should I trust your baking?" You asked teasingly and she just chuckled rolling her eyes. "Cmon' take one" she said, nudging the tray into your side making you giggle before you got one. You took a bite, humming as you tasted the hazelnut on your tongue.
"So good" you said, taking another bite.
"I'm glad" Lana answered, caressing your shoulder before kissing you. She hummed into the kiss before pulling away quite suddenly.
"The hazelnut is really good, glad I added them" she said, and you chuckled over the fact that she could taste her own treats through your shared kiss.
You scooted closer to her, trying not to fall because of the blanket you were wrapped in, before you rested your head on her shoulder.
"This is such a vibe and I love it" you said, smelling the cinnamon, both from the candles and the tea while tasting the hazelnut on your tongue. Outside it was dark but the room was lit up by the many small lights in the room while the fireplace was also lighting up the cozy living room.
"Me too" Lana answered as she turned her head to kiss your temple.
With that you spent the rest of the night in front of the fireplace with tea, candles and cookies, each item making it a real autumn night.
