Chapter 25

I fall forwards as I cry, about to run to Kimberley, but Amanda pulls me back into her again.

'Now look what you've done Cheryl' she whispers menacingly into my ear, her left arm looped around my neck.

Her head is hovering over my shoulder, tilting her head towards me a little as she whispers, though her eyes remain on Kimberley.

Kimberley is still lay on the floor, screaming and crying out in pain as her hands helplessly press against her tummy. Her perfect baby bump, now tarnished by a single bullet as blood pours out into a crimson puddle on the floor.

'I was just going to shoot her in the head and have done with it. A quick and almost painless death.' Amanda continues to snarl in a hushed tone whilst I hopelessly squirm against her grip, just wanting to get save Kimberley. 'But you just had to knock me didn't you? You just had to put your wife through agony before her last breaths... Not you mention your baby' she adds the last part bitterly, rubbing salt in the wounds.

But she's right. It is my fault Kimberley is in pain. It is my fault that my son now probably has a bullet in his head, and he hasn't even left his mother's womb yet.

I am pulled out of my thoughts when I see Amanda's arm rise, right beside me and I can see where she is aiming. Right for the head again.

'Think we better put her out of her misery?' she smirks, 'End her suffering?'

Before she even has the chance to tighten her grip on the trigger, my selfish instincts kick in. It would probably be easier for her to kill Kimberley, at least that way she won't suffering. But I refuse to lose her yet.

'No!' I shout, forcefully swinging my elbow back and into her belly.

She gasps and releases me from her grip, dropping her gun at the same time.

Spinning to face her with an angry glare, I see her clutching her own stomach in pain. But I couldn't give a sh!t. Instead, shoving her back into the wall, and she slides down it, sitting on the floor.

'You, fcuking stay there and don't move!' I order, 'so help me god, if you do you'll have a few bullet wounds of your own'

With that I turn on my heels and hurry over to Kimberley, diving onto my knees and skidding across the floor towards her for the last few inches to get me there quicker.

'Kimba' I breath as I lean over her, taking her into my arms, laying her head against my elbow.

'Chez' she wails, tears rolling from her eyes and into her hair, 'th-the baby'

'I know sweetheart' I whimper, my emotions buckling, 'I know. And I'm so sorry'

I hear the front door slam and a scouse accent rings through my ears.

'Hellooh hoo' Nicola sings and Kimberley smirks.

'Fridge...' she chuckles weakly, 'any money'

I can't help a weak smile when I see hers. I twist to look behind me, towards the door, just as Nicola appears in the doorway. Not noticing me and Kimberley on the floor in the middle of the room, she walks in, making a beeline for the fridge as usual. That's her priority if no one answers when she calls. Find the food and then us.

But she notices Amanda on the floor beside the doorway, pained and clutching her bump.

'Oh my god Kimberley!' she gasps, dropping down beside her.

'Wrong Kimberley, Nic' I mutter, making her jump as she spins in our direction.

'Oh my gosh!' she gasps again.
