Chapter 31

'Kimba, would you slow down?' I chuckle as she wheels herself through the hospital.

'No, I want to get home' she whines, groaning as she comes to the lift, realising she will have to wait for it to arrive.

But her patience gets the better of her as she starts to repeatedly press the button.

They moved Kimberley into maternity after one more day in intensive care. But that was four days ago now, and she and Jacob have finally been told we can go home.

We met up with Amanda again once we had been moved into maternity, luckily we had been moved down there just in time, as she was set to leave the next day. We properly discussed what would happen and she decided to move to Berlin, saying she knew a friend from University who lived over there.

I then ran to the bank, got out just over 3 million pound from our savings, not including the money we spent on her flight, transport and accommodation, and brought it back for her in an envelope. Me and Amanda then went down to the cafe to use the wifi to book their flight to Berlin, an apartment for her to stay in, and a car for her to use when she gets there.

The next day, she signed her discharge papers, I drove her home, to her small apartment block, while she packed a few things, wrote a note to her landlord and left her keys. Before eventually dropping her off at the airport and watching as she walked through the terminal... I even waited half an hour after her plane took off, just to be sure she hadn't chickened out and tried to get a taxi home.

Returning to the hospital, I was greeted by questions from Kimberley, making sure everything had gone to plan. Which I couldn't answer properly until I got a message from Amanda a couple of hours later, telling us that she had arrived and thanking us again for letting her start again with her life.

Since that day, everything seems to have gone back to normal between our family. No more police interruptions, no more worrying about what Amanda was plotting next. Just spending time together as a perfect little family, and allowing mine and Kimberley's relationship to heal, following the traumatic events we have been through recently.

As I overlap the past week in my head, I can't help but smile about our strong relationship, especially when I hear the lift doors open, followed by Kimberley's squeal of joy as she wheels herself in. I snap out of my daze and follow her, carrying Jacob in his car seat and the bag of stuff that the girls brought around. Once Kimberley has turned herself around again to face the closing doors, I sneakily put the brakes on the back wheels of the chair, smirking to myself when I realise I was successful and she hasn't noticed.

Nadine came to see us, pretty much as soon as her plane landed, leaving all of her cases in the car and treating her driver to a coffee in the cafe while she came upstairs for an hour to visit us and meet Jacob. Safe to say, she too has fell in love with him. She and the girls have stopped by twice over the past four days, not wanting to get in our way too much.

But on the days that the girls decided to give us a break on, our family decided to visit instead. My mam, Gary, Kimberley's sisters and brother, and her mam and dad. They were actually here for the whole of one day, and then the other day, my mam and Gary were here until 2, Kimberley's family came at about 1ish, and didn't leave until 10. So really, we haven't had much time to ourselves since she's been in hospital.

The doors slide open again as we reach the ground floor, and Kimberley goes to zip off again, but she hasn't noticed that I put the brakes on her wheels. She wriggles around in the chair, twisting to look at the back wheels.
