Hey guys,

I'm so sorry it has taken me so long to update my fanfics. I've not been feeling myself recently and haven't had much motivation, I know that's no excuse for how terrible this chapter is and I'm sorry.

I think I will be focusing on finishing this fanfic before continuing with 'I'll always be there' because this one is only a few chapters away from being finished.

Thank you to everyone who has been reading, voting and commenting, and for waiting for the next update. It means so much xx

Chapter 27

We finally get into the intensive care unit, after almost ten minutes of waiting for someone to let us in to see Kimberley. I spot the main desk towards the left ward, and quickly make my way there.

'Ah Mrs Tweedy-Walsh' I hear someone call me before we can reach the desk.

Whirling around on my heels, I see a doctor coming towards us with a warm smile.

'We've been wondering where you got to'

'She's okay right?' I ask urgently.

'We managed to find and remove the bullet. However, she has still lost a lot of blood, due to her bullet wound and the blood she has lost through the haemorrhage.' She explains as she begins to walk us down the corridor, 'but the great news is that she is stable'

Those three words immediately put me at ease and Nic gives my hand a quick squeeze.

We stop at a room, just as the door opens and another professional comes out.

'I've just refreshed her IV drip, and in about an hour when it has finished, she should be ready for a blood transfusion. Her body is responding very well to the treatment.' The woman says to Kimberley's doctor, before turning to us with a smile, 'Oh hi, I guess they found you huh?'

'This is Katrina, she is the emergency obstetrician on call today. She has been organising and monitoring Kimberley's treatment' the doctor introduces us, before turning back to Katrina, 'Has she woken up yet?'

'She did for a minute or two, when the new drip started going in. She still seemed a little out of it though and she's extremely weak. I think it's best to let her sleep for as long as she needs.' Katrina informs us, 'She'll need to be monitored for a few days.'

'Are we okay to see her?' Nic asks timidly.

'Yes of course, just try to be quiet while she is asleep and awake. It's likely that she will have a few side effects from the blood loss. If you are concerned about any symptoms she is experiencing, just call for a nurse or doctor.'

She moves out of the doorway, letting us into Kimberley's room, 'Oh and could you let us know when she wakes up, just because we need to talk to her' she adds, before closing the door behind us.

I sit in the chair beside Kimberley's bed, whilst Nicola grabs a chair from the corner, which I'm assuming the obstetrician was sat on.

I take Kimberley's hand, taking in her pale complexion and blue tinted lips. Her skin is cool and coated in a thin layer of sweat. Seeing goose bumps on her arms, I pull her blankets further up her body, hoping to warm her a little.

'How could someone do this to her?' I whisper against her hand before kissing it. 'How could Amanda believe that you deserved this?'

'Chez?' Nic gently gets my attention as she reaches into her pocket, 'I think Kimberley will want this when she wakes up.'
