Chapter 12

‘Chez’ I hear a small tapping on the door, followed by her soft trembling voice. ‘What’s wrong?’

I have only been in here for about ten minutes, but it probably took her that long to get herself up off the floor. I can tell she is worried, I can hear it in her voice. She is on the verge of crying and that is because of me.

I look up at myself in the mirror from where I am still holding myself up against the sink.

‘Nothing babe’ I clear my throat before continuing, ‘I’ll be out in a minute, okay?’

She doesn’t reply, but I hear her slowly move away from the door and faint movements coming from the bedroom.

I feel awful. I know she will be thinking all sorts about why I stopped myself from going any further and locked myself in here. I have to go out and explain. I have to help her heart heal.

I slowly open the door and see that she has dragged one of my suitcases from the corner of the room and put it on the end of the bed. She is now bending over the bed, taking my clothes off it, folding them and neatly placing them in the case.

‘Kimba’ I whisper.

‘Hmm?’ This is the only response I get.

She doesn’t turn to look at me or stop what she is doing. She just continues stretching across the bed and collecting my clothes.

‘Hey what are you doing?’ I quickly move to her side, ‘I’ll do that’

I don’t like the way she is straining to reach the clothes on the other side of the bed, rather than just walking around. Why can’t she just relax and be careful with the way she is moving and twisting?

‘No it’s fine’ she mutters, straightening up to fold the clothes she has pulled across the bed, ‘I just thought if you’re going to be sleeping in a bed it would be nice to at least be able to see it.’

‘Oh’ I reply, a little confused by what she meant about that, ‘well... if you’re sure you’re okay with that, I’ll make a start on the rest of the room.’

I watch her, hoping for some sort of a response, but nothing. I just decide to get on with it; I can talk to her later. So for now, I just grab another suitcase from the corner, laying it down and opening it, then beginning to tidy the room.

I have finished packing my stuff now, it took about two hours and my back is killing me from being hunched over picking my clothes up. I zip up the last case and glance behind me at the alarm clock on the bedside table.

It is half two now, so I guess I am paying for an extra night on my bill.

A groan escapes my lips as the dull ache in my back grows as I straighten up, using the tips of my fingers to rub my lower back, soothing the ache.

I turn around to look at Kimberley who is still sleeping peacefully in the bed.

She wasn’t been much help when packing, considering the minute she had cleared the bed, she sat down on it to rest and fell asleep with her back hunched and head pressed up against the headboard.

I’ll be honest though, I’m quite glad she did. I’d rather she was resting instead of clearing the room of my mess.

So as soon as I realised she had fell asleep, I gently moved her further down in the bed so her head is resting on the pillow, and I pulled the covers over her so she doesn’t wake up cold.

But now I have to wake her up.

I shuffle over to the bed, sitting on the edge of it beside her, taking in her gorgeous features.
