Chapter 8: The Defenders

Previously

Last time, the villain, known as Baron Zemo, the former leader of HYDRA and the archnemesis of Captain America, split up the Avengers with the help of Armin Zola's Doughboys. He attacked the Avengers Mansion, where both Ben, Wasp, and Captain America were while Iron Man, Thor, and Ant-Man headed off to the Statue of Liberty to face off against an army of Doughboys During his attack on the mansion, Zemo became enthralled with Ben's omnitrix while still trying to kill Captain America. While almost succeeding, Zemo was stopped as a man in a black cat suit saved Captain America, causing Zemo to retreat. Once Ben, Wasp, and Captain America recovered from facing off against Zemo and a Doughboy, they went to Liberty Island to assist the other Avengers.

On the island, the three saw that Iron Man, Thor, and Ant-Man had their hands full with the Doughboys. Remembering how they defeated the Doughboy back at the mansion, Ben and Wasp instruct the Avengers how to defeat the Doughboys. Now, knowing how to defeat the Doughboys, it seemed like the Avengers were going to win. Unfortunately, that was not the case as all of the Doughboys merged together to form one giant Doughboy that only got larger after Thor tried to defeat it. It took Ben transforming into his Ultimate Shocksquatch form with a boost from Thor to defeat the giant Doughboy once and for all.

While the Avengers celebrated their victory and Iron Man made Captain America a co-leader of the Avengers, a new threat was brewing. Upon his defeat, Zemo was greeted by the Enchantress who wanted to form a team with him and others who hated the Avengers. Being promised that he would get to kill Captain America and get Ben's omnitrix, Zemo agreed, and the Masters of Evil was formed. Unfortunately, they were just a few of Ben's and the Avengers problems. Ben was still dealing his nightmares on top of everything else.

Ben's House: Bellwood

It was the same scene, Ben was on the ground in a pool of blood that was mixed with his own blood and the blood of his loved ones. Fire was everywhere, the air smelled of ash, smoke and death while the skies were dark. There was no sound except for the flames that had engulfed Ben's home. Laying next to Ben was the corpse of his fiancé and the love of his life, Kai Green. Her neck had been broken, and her stomach had been ripped open, her unborn child removed. Ben, who was still alive, had a look of horror, sadness, and anger on his face as he looked at his dead fiancé.

"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry" Ben said as tears fell down from his face

Most of Ben's own body had been badly beaten and broken, but he was still able to slowly reach out and touch the cold face of Kai. As soon as Ben touched Kai's face, her eyes blinked, and she slowly started to move.

"Kai?" Ben asked, scared and confused

"Why did you do this to me?" Kai asked Ben as she started to get up

"What? I didn't do this to you" Ben said, shocked

"But you did, you did this to me, because of you, I'm dead and my baby is gone" Kai tells Ben, angered at him

Ben is confused and has no idea what is going on as Kai finishes standing up, her organs falling out of the hole in her stomach

"I could never do this to you, I loved you, you were my everything" Ben said as he tried to get up but couldn't

"Yous failed to save me, you failed to save us, you failed to choose, and now all of us are dead" Kai tells Ben as he appearance slowly starts to decay

Ben is horrified by what he is seeing and tries to back away but bumps into something. Turning around, Ben sees his cousin Gwen and his friend Kevin standing there with his grandfather.
