Chapter 4: Growing Pains

Last time, a massive blackout happened that affected all of the nation's supermax prisons. Villains from the Big House, the Raft, the Cube, and the Vault all escaped from their cells. One such villain, Graviton, aka Franklin Hall, managed to escape his cell and instantly  wanted revenge against Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D for locking him up. Not only that, but Graviton also wanted to destroy the entire city of New York. Blinded by anger and rage, Graviton used his powers to control gravity to go on a rampage as he sought out Fury. It took the combined efforts of Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Ant-Man, Wasp, and the transforming alien who went by many names to defeat Graviton and put a stop to his plans.

Upon Graviton's defeat, Iron Man decided that it would be best if all the heroes came together to stop and recapture the escaped 74 villains since it would be easier if they worked together. The alien wanted no part of this and refused to join this newly named Avengers. Taking this opportunity, Fury came and tried to take the alien with him, but they refused. Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D were responsible for Graviton, and the alien didn't want to become a test subject. However, the alien did promise to answer all of Fury's questions. Starting with the obvious one, the alien revealed that he was actually a young human male whose name was Ben Tennyson.

Ben also revealed that he was not from this universe as his universe as he was the only hero there. Fury obviously didn't believe what Ben was saying, but of course, he'd still check it out. Wasp and the other heroes still wanted Ben to come with them as he had nowhere to go. Still not wanting to be a hero anymore, Ben revealed to everyone why he no longer wanted to be a hero. His parents, friends, and loved ones had all been killed, and it was his fault for not being there. Everyone was shocked and horrified as they couldn't believe that someone as young as Ben could experience such a thing.

Ben tried to leave, but Fury wouldn't let him leave unless he came with him and answered more of his questions. Ben, of course, didn't trust Fury or S.H.I.E.L.D, but Iron Man stepped in and offered a place where Ben could answer all of Fury's questions while being safe.

Avengers Mansion: New York City

Outside of a large mansion that was in the upper west part of New York City, Ben, Thor, and Hulk were waiting with their bags. Standing with them was a woman with red hair, her name was Pepper Potts and she was the assistant of Iron Man, aka Tony Stark. The reason why Ben, Thor, and Hulk were waiting outside of this mansions was because Tony had told them to meet him here along with Wasp aka Janet Van Dyne and Ant-Man aka Hank Pym. It had been over an hour now since they got here, and Tony still hadn't shown up. Hulk being Hulk was getting extremely annoyed by all of this waiting, which made Pepper nervous. Ben still couldn't believe that he was actually standing here as an Avenger, especially after how much he protested, becoming a hero once more.

You see, it had been over a week since the blackout that freed over 74 villains from four supermax prisons. Ben and the others joined up as a team they called the Avengers to stop and recapture the 74 escaped villains. They'd also stop other villains as well if they showed up to ruin the day. So far, Ben and the other Avengers had managed to recapture one of the escaped 74 villains. Madril, a villain who had mutated into a baboon-like form with the power to control females with his pheromones. Mandril wasn't much of a challenge for Ben and the Avengers and pretty much gave up right away when confronted by them. Besides Mandril, there hadn't been a sighting of any of the other escaped 74 villains.

"He's late" Hulk said with an annoyed growl

"Don't worry, he'll be here soon, I'm sure he's just stuck in a meeting" Pepper said, trying to make excuses for Tony's tardiness

"While I wish he wasn't late, this sure does beat being trapped in the tower" Ben said as he stretched a bit

Over the past week, Ben, Thor, and Hulk had been staying in Stark Tower, Tony's own building, while he looked for a place for all of them to stay. The tower had also been the place where Ben explained his story to everyone in further detail. It was also the place where he eventually made the decision that would change his life. This decision would change his life about as much as when he put the omnitrix back on after not wearing it for four years. Looking back at it now, Ben remembered why he made this decision, and while still not sure about it, Ben knew he didn't regret it.
