"This is gross," Tommy cringed, rightfully so considering the fact that Elle was currently lathering him in walker guts.

"You're telling me," Elle said, looking down at the sheet she was wearing that Carl had just covered in the same walker guts she was now covering Tommy in. "But if Rick says it's the best plan then it's the best plan."

Tommy nodded. He trusted and looked up to Elle the same way Elle trusted and looked up to Rick. Besides, he was used to being on the road, the walkers didn't scare him, at least not as much as they seemed to scare Sam.

Once they were all covered in walker guts and Judith was hidden underneath Carl's sheet, they started their journey into the herd of walkers. Rick led the way while Michonne held up the back. Elle was in between Tommy and Jessie since she wanted Tommy to be next to both her and Carl. The teenagers liked to complain about being the babysitters, but when it came down to it, they protected those kids with their lives. They'd babysit for the rest of eternity if it meant Judith and Tommy were safe.

They stopped on the porch for a moment, Rick making a plan while the rest of them got used to the walkers surrounding them. Carl looked back at Elle, his eyes saying everything he couldn't. They'd be okay. They were going to get out of this. And Elle's eyes spoke back. He didn't need to worry about her. She was ready for whatever was going to happen.

It was funny. It was funny because they were both utterly and completely wrong.

Rick led the group off the porch, all of them now holding hands so that they couldn't get separated. Tommy's grip on Elle's hand was close to cutting off her circulation, but her hold was almost as tight as his. It had hit her that she had no idea if Maggie or Ollie was safe. Or Tara, Rosita, Carol, and everyone else she cared about. She didn't even know if Daryl, Enid, Glenn, Abraham, and Sasha would ever make it home.

Tommy squeezing Elle's hand made her quit her worrying and remember what they were doing. She had to get the walkers out of Alexandria before she could worry about anything else.

They hadn't made it that far from the house when Rick pulled them all aside to regroup. Rick's original plan of using flares to draw the walkers away was not going to work anymore. There were too many walkers and not enough of them. Instead, they were going to get to all their vehicles and round up all the walkers.

"Judith and Tommy need to stay," Elle told Rick. "It's going to be too hard trying to protect them and get this done. Sam too."

"I'll take them," Gabriel stepped up. "Take them and protect them in my church until the walkers are all gone."

"If anything happens to them-"

"I'll protect them," Gabriel promised Elle. "I will."

Tommy pulled Elle down so that he could whisper, "I've got this. Go."
