Elle had never been happier than she was in the next six months of her life. It was like a small utopia she found in the middle of the apocalypse. Food wasn't an issue, walkers weren't an issue, the Governor wasn't an issue, there was nothing to be worried about. She had even had a birthday party for the first time in ten years.

Some nights the utopia disappeared, nightmares replacing her fairytale. It was nothing new, she had been plagued by them since her fathers passing as a toddler, now though they were about Andrea and the words carved into her arm.

No one tried to pry, but each stare at her arm made Elle's spirit diminish slightly. Her pride wouldn't allow her to cover it up, but her anxiety still made her hold her arm against her body when she walked around the prison.

It didn't matter though, because any time she started to show any sign of self consciousness, Carl linked his arm with hers and dragged her to the field to play soccer or to their cell to read comics, it was the best way to distract her.

Runs were extremely common now, more than ever. Usually Daryl led them and usually he didn't let Elle come and she did not hide her displeasure. After about a month she made a deal with him and Maggie that at least once every two weeks her and Maggie could go outside the fences. Daryl liked to call it girl time, but in all honestly Maggie was just vividly aware of how much Elle needed a break from the prison.

Right now they were on their way back from a day trip to a nearby pond where they collected water to bring back and boil. Beth had joined them, something she did from time to time.

"I still can't believe you pushed me into the water," Elle said to Beth, leaning forward from the backseat in between the driver seat that Maggie was in and passenger seat that Beth was in.

"Only after you splashed me," Beth defended herself. "Plus Carl said he'd do my chores for a week if I did it."

"That asshole!" Elle flew back into her seat. "I'm gonna kick him in the face."

"Very intimidating," she saw Maggie smirk through the mirror.

"You should've seen his face when he asked me," Beth went on. "It was adorable, he's so in love with you."

While Elle's face scrunched up in confusion and slight disgust, Maggie scolded Beth, but smiled nonetheless.

"Just let her be oblivious a little while longer," Maggie said to Beth as if Elle wasn't even there. "I don't even think Carl's realized his own feelings."

Elle made her presence known by leaning in between the two again. "What the hell are you two going on about?"

"Oh that boy is so in love with you," Beth looked back at her. "You can see it in his eyes."
