After walking down most of the streets in Alexandria and watching the Saviors take all of their stuff, Negan finally asked the question Elle had been waiting for. He had made Rick lead him through the community, Elle and Daryl both trailing along. He was rubbing it in everyone's face that he had total control over the father and daughter duo. He had turned two of Alexandria's fiercest members submissive. Elle's mom hadn't even been able to shut down her snarky attitude, but Negan had. She was terrified of him after what he had done to Glenn and Abraham.

But the question Negan had asked intrigued himself, Elle, and Daryl. He had asked about Maggie. That's all Elle wanted to know. She hadn't seen a lot of people yet so she wasn't making assumptions, but she'd be lying if she said Maggie's missing presence hadn't worried her.

Unfortunately, Negan couldn't stop after he asked the question. He had to go on and on about Maggie being a widow and how interested he was in the woman. After killing her husband he was talking about her like she was a piece of meat. It reminded Elle about her notes on his wives. Had she been correct in assuming he had multiple wives?

That didn't matter at the moment though. Negan was talking disgustingly about Maggie, and Elle wouldn't stand for it. No matter how intimidating he was, he didn't get to talk like that about her mom. Her real mom.

"Don't talk about her like that," Elle said. It was a mumble at first, her head down. She knew that speaking up would have consequences, but she had to defend Maggie's honor.

Negan was amused, raising his eyebrows as he turned from Rick to her. "What did you just say to me?"

"I said to watch your mouth when you talk about my mom!" Elle yelled, pushing away Rick who was trying to keep her at bay.

"Hold on," Negan shook his head. "I thought Jenny was your mom. You're really confusing the shit out of me."

"Jennifer Coleman lost the privilege of being a mother a long time ago," Elle stepped closer to Negan. He hadn't retaliated against her yelling the first time and Elle had taken that as a sign to continue. "The woman whose husband you murdered, she's my mom. Blood doesn't mean anything in this world. Love does. Not that you would understand."

That last line seemed a little too personal for Negan, the older man pointing a finger in Elle's face. "Don't forget who's in charge here," he warned. "Make one wrong move and I can take Lucille to the widow's head. I thought we had an understanding?"

"We do," Elle told him, calming herself back down. "I'm sorry, the mom thing is personal." Elle had to remind herself how dangerous this man was. Every time she got ahead of herself she tried to remember Abraham and Glenn. They hadn't died just for Elle to lash out and get someone else killed.
