"Have you told Luke you like him? Like for real like him?" Kaia asked her sister as the three girls sat in the car in the Starbucks parking lot, Cleo in the front, Ellie and Kaia in the back. They where waiting for Luke as he was getting them drinks from inside.
"Do you think if I told him he's still be here? Doing this with me?" Cleo questioned sarcastically.
Ellie sighed at her best friend, "I guess not. But won't you feel better telling him?"
"And have happen what happened with Damon, happen with Luke. No thanks," she said looking up from her phone.
"Luke isn't Damon." They were so invested in their conversation they didn't see Luke approaching the car. The window was down slightly so he was able to here the words.
"I know that. I know Luke isn't Damon but I still feel vulnerable. Luke and I are only fake dating, it's not hard to keep up the fake act. Damon lied to me our whole relationship and made me look like the bad guy. Like a stupid fucking idiot."
Cleo paused, "as much as I find Luke attractive, and sweet and funny. And charming. And most possibly my favourite person to be around at the moment. I don't want to risk our budding relationship cause i fall for people to fast."
She signed, "I don't want to let him in so he can hurt me. So I'm going to do what's best for me and continue with are nice and stable fake relationship and keep my heart out of this."
By the end of her rant Cleo had small tears dribbling down her cheeks, flashbacks of the mental abuse Damon make the girl suffer. He never physically hurt her but he might as well have. He broke her.
They were interrupted by the car door opening and she was met by her 'boyfriend.' He slid in the seat beside her causing her to look away. He handed the drinks to the girls in the back before grabbing a hold of her chin and kissing her cheek. He pulled her into a tight hug.
He didn't know the full history between Cleo and Damon but in that moment he knew she needed a friend. And that's what he could supply, he wanted to be there for her.
