*1 moon and a few days later*
"Foxkit, from this moment on, you will be known as Foxpaw and your mentor will be Riversplash. I except that you will pass on your bravery and battle moves to this young apprentice," Owlstar announced smiling.
Riversplash nodded, not looking the least bit surprised and padded over and touched noses with his new apprentice.
Foxpaw felt pride and excitement coursing through her as she did so.
"I promise to teach you everything I know," he said beaming, clearly happy that he got an apprentice.
Foxpaw felt a rush of happiness.
I can tell that he will be a really good mentor already.
"And I promise to do the best I can to listen and learn from you so that I can be the best warrior ever!"
He nodded still smiling and returned his gaze back towards the ceremony.
"-and from this moment on, you will be known as Badgerpaw. Your mentor will be Lilyflower. Please pass on your courage and kindness to this young apprentice."
Lilyflower dipped her head. "I'll do my best."
Badgerpaw went over and touched noses with his mentor, wyes bright.
Elmkit then became Elmpaw and her mentor is Otterfall.
"That is all. Meeting dismissed!" Owlstar announced jumping off from the High Rock.
The Foxpaw's clan swarmed around to congratulate her and her siblings. However, Foxpaw saw Nightpaw sitting alone a little ways away with his tail curled over his paws. He was waiting for her. He was watching her smiling.
"Umm thanks, excuse me," Foxpaw kept on saying but couldn't get through. She had to wait a couple painful minutes until she could finally squeeze through. Nightpaw's eyes held slight amusement. Foxpaw narrowed her eyes teasingly but gave up. "I'm an apprentice!" She squealed happily.
Nightpaw chuckled. "I can see that. Now you can finally try to catch up to me on those battle moves," he tease, flicking his tail over her ears.
Foxpaw rolled her eyes. "Will you stop teasing me? Just because you won those last couple of rounds doesn't mean that you're better than me." But she couldn't help but smile. It was true. He really was better than Foxpaw, for now. And she really wanted to beat him so that she could show that mangly little fur ball who's the best.
Nightpaw ignored that past comment. "Maybe our mentors will let us train together!" He said happily as well.
Foxpaw's ears immediately perked up. "Maybe."
And as if the two apprentices had summoned them, Riversplash came over to the two apprentices as well as Nightkit's mentor Rabbitail.
"We're going to go see the borders Foxpaw," Riversplash said.
Foxpaw nodded to him. "Ok, but can Nightpaw come?"
Rabbitail shook his head. "No, he's going hunting with me and some other apprentices," he said giving her an apologetic look.
"Ok, that's fine," Foxpaw said trusting not to look so disappointed.
"Maybe next time," Nightpaw said to her in her ear as he passed by her walking towards the entrance tunnel to go hunting.
Foxpaw felt a pang of sadness go thorough her but the it quickly disappeared when Riversplash asked if she was ready to see the borders. She nodded enthusiastically. "Yes! Let's go!" She said darting towards the entrance tunnel as Riversplash followed quickly behind chuckling to himself.
