Foxpaw's eyes fluttered open as she saw Badgerpaw standing above her, nudging her gently.
"Time to wake up," he said tiredly.
Foxpaw nodded and pulled herself up to her paws. She got out of the apprentices den and padded next to her brother. He would occasionally lean over towards her unsteady because of his exhaustion and she would nudge him up to balance him again. The pair made their way towards their mentors.
Riversplash nodded to them while Lilyflower, Badgerpaw's mentor, said, "We are going to check Clover Clan borders now."
"Ok," Foxpaw said sleepily, slowly forgetting her dream.
Riversplash and Lilyflower padded side-by-side in front of Foxpaw and Badgerpaw leading the way. They walked in silence.
They eventually made it to the border after a while. The walk had made Foxpaw more awake and Badgerpaw looked as if he was feeling the same way. Foxpaw's gaze travelled the enemy clan's territory. It was mostly flat lands with a few trees here and there. But she could also spot a small forest a little ways away.
My best guess would be that that's where their camp is. Foxpaw thought flicking her tail.
The patrol spread out and marked the border. But then, Lilyflower suddenly hissed which made Foxpaw jump slightly. She turned and saw her glaring at a bush. What did the poor bush do to anger Lilyflower?
"Come here," she said flicking her tail, gesturing to it.
The patrol padded to where the bush was. But when she came near it, it reeked of Clover Clan.
Riversplash growled. "Those arrogant little morsels! Do they really think that they can just do this: barging in and breaking the Warrior Code and saying that they claim our territory? I think not! Let's tell Owlstar immediately."
Foxpaw was a little scared. She didn't like seeing her mentor this way. It scared her. She glanced at Badgerpaw, his eyes were fixed on Clover Clan territory.
"Should we head back then?" She asked tentatively.
Riversplash looked at her and his gaze softened slightly. "Sorry Foxpaw to scare you. Let's go," he said and flicked his tail. He lead the way back to camp.
Lilyflower padded beside Foxpaw. "Do you know why Riversplash hates Clover Clan so much?"
Foxpaw shook her head sadly.
"Well would you like to know?"
Foxpaw nodded.
"Well," she began. "Back then, when Riversplash was only an apprentice, these clans still hated each other. We kept on arguing with each other like we do now, except they do all the fighting while we defend. So while Riversplash, or at this time, Riverpaw was on a patrol with his mentor, another warrior named Needlespike, and his mother Bluesky. They were nearing the Clover Clan border when suddenly they were ambushed. Seven cats came poring out of the underbrush and leaped out at the patrol. They were outnumbered badly and were taken by surprise so the Clover Clan cats definitely had the upper paw. Riverpaw was suddenly pushed back by his mentor towards the camp telling him to get back-up. His mentor leaped into battle to help his clan mates that were getting shredded, including Riverpaw's mom. Even though his mentor told him to go get back-up, he knew that it would already be to late and he was frozen in fear. He couldn't move. Just thank Star Clan that he was in a big bush with huge leaves, sheltering him, hiding him from the enemies. He watched Needlespike get blown over by a huge, jet black Tom while another cat sunk his claws into his throat, killing him. And Riverpaw's mentor got cornered by a tree and was slashed to death, him seeing all of this. But his mother's death was the worst of all. They toyed with her. They would bite her in one spot, letting her bleed then strike at her again repeating until she died. They merely laughed as they looked at their handy work around them. They then stalked off with their tails held high and their claws stained with noble warrior cat blood. Riversplash was the only one who survived from that patrol, but at that moment, he wish he hadn't. He had never seen these cats ever before at Gatherings but they had Clover Clan scent all over them, proving that they were all from that lame excuse for a clan that doesn't have any honor or show mercy at all. They always just think that they can take what that want and get away with it."
