Foxpaw had scented a mouse and caught it clean. Riversplash had praised her, and now, Foxpaw had scented a squirrel and is stalking it.
The wind was blowing towards her, not letting her prey know that she was there. Foxpaw was slowly creeping forwards. Then she leaped at it and landed squarely on its neck. She bent it quickly, snapping it. She gave thanks to her prey from Star Clan and padded back to Riversplash confidently, tail held high.
Riversplash purred. "Great catch!" He praised.
"Fank-oo," Foxpaw tried to say but it was mostly muffled by her prey. It was huge!
"Time to head back to camp," he said and turned towards camp.
Foxpaw only nodded and padded away a few cat lengths to retrieve her mouse she had caught earlier. She unburied it and picked it up by its tail and quickly padded back to her mentor.
They walked back together to camp. Foxpaw kept tripping over her squirrel because it was so big.
"Go give your catch to the elders, I'm sure that they will appreciate it," Riversplash said, nodding to Foxpaw's two catches.
Foxpaw beamed, nodding and skipped to the elder's den. And half way there, Nightpaw appeared out of no where.
"Hi Foxpaw!" He said brightly, padding in front of her and sat down. "Are you going to the elders' den right now?" He asked curious, tilting his head slightly.
Foxpaw jumped a little in surprise, dropping her prey. She squealed. "You have got to stop doing that Nightpaw! You scared me half to death!"
He chuckled, picking up the mouse for her. " 'Just one of my specialties," he said winking and stood up.
Foxpaw laughed and picked up her big squirrel. She stummbled.
"Whoa! What's a really big catch you got there! I'm sure even Mosswhisker will be impressed!"
Foxpaw purred through her prey. "Fank-oo!" She said as she started to pad towards the elders' den.
Nightpaw chuckled as he followed next to her. Their pelts brushed but she didn't mind the least bit.
Foxpaw ducked into the den entrance. Mosswhisker was playing at a tough part of her bedding while Barkfur was dozing off slowly, but his head perked up immediately when he saw the two cats come it.
He purred sleepily, "Hey there youngin's, come here to give us some food?" He asked, pulling himself into a sitting up position.
"You!" Foxpaw said proudly as she set down her squirrel. "Here you go."
Barkfur's eyes widened slightly. "Well that's a pretty fine lookin' catch you got right dér," he said smiling.
"Let me see," Mosswhisker said gruffly, scooting over. She eyed the squirrel but Foxpaw could see interest in her eyes. "Not to bad."
Foxpaw purred. "Thank you. It's my first hunt."
Mosswhisker nodded and only then saw Nightpaw. She looked down at the mouse he had been carrying for Foxpaw and had set it down. She narrowed her eyes. "Is that all you got kit? I thought that you have been traing for almost 2 moons now. It's Foxpaw's first day and she has already done better than you."
Nightpaw only nodded, glancing at Foxpaw.
Foxpaw cleared her thoat. "That kill was actually mine as well. He was just helping me carry it," she explained. She glanced at Barkfur. He had already begun to devour the giant squirrel.
Mosswhisker looked like she was about to say something but then saw Barkfur as well, eating the squirrel. "Hey! Save some for me!" She said half annoyed and half amused.
Barkfur chuckled. "I will save you some don't worry."
"I hope so. I'm watching you."
"You don't have to. I already have no chance on sneaking anything by you," he joked lightly.
Foxpaw saw a small smile twitch. "True true," she said and pulled the mouse forwards with one paw and started to eat. "Not to bad."
"Same here."
Foxpaw's chest swelled with pride. She went out of the elders' den to leave them to eat in peace and, Nightpaw following close behind. But just then, her stomach growled loudly. Nightpaw raised an eyebrow at her and Foxpaw glanced at Nightpaw looking embarrassed. "Hehe. I haven't eaten since this morning and I'm starving."
He laughed. "Alright let's get you some food," he said nudging her towards he fresh kill pile.
Foxpaw chuckled. "Ok ok stop pushing," she said as Nightpaw chose a big thrush for the two of them and he padded back to Foxpaw. They walked side by side to a tree stump nearby and laid down. Nightpaw let her have the first few bites before he would finally accept it when he refused so that she could have more. It was finished in just some mere minutes and Nightpaw went to go get a small mouse to fill them more. They soon finished that too, their stomachs full.
Nightpaw sighed, lying on his back stretching. They had moved to a much more sunnier spot. Foxpaw was doing the same.
Foxpaw purred, feeling the warn sun soak into her fur. "This is the life. I can't wait till we're Warriors."
Nightpaw chuckled. "Didnt you just become an apprentice two days ago?" He teased lightly, thus eyes sparkling.
She rolled her eyes. "Yes but still."
"Just enjoy life as an apprentice first ok?" He asked scooting closer so that their pelts brushed.
Foxpaw rolled her eyes. "Yeah yeah yeah O'Great and Powerful One."
Nightpaw chuckled. But just then Elmpaw came over.
"Hello Nightpaw," she said sweetly, standing up straight and tall, almost completely ignoring her own flesh and blood. "How are you?"
